The An Phu Interchange project is entering the final stage of construction, with workers working in 3 shifts during the Tet holiday. When completed, the project will become a modern infrastructure highlight, reducing traffic congestion and connecting the eastern part of Ho Chi Minh City.
The An Phu Interchange Project (Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City) is a key traffic project, expected to resolve the long-standing traffic congestion at the eastern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City and connect key economic areas. With a scale of three floors, including six bridges, two underpasses and connecting roads... This is a project that is considered to have the most modern infrastructure in Ho Chi Minh City.
The total investment is up to 3,400 billion VND, the project to build two two-way tunnels connecting Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway with Mai Chi Tho Street, extending across Dong Van Cong Street. At the intersection, there are 4 overpasses, of which, the Y-shaped N1 bridge connects the expressway approach road with Mai Chi Tho and Luong Dinh Cua streets; the C-shaped N2 bridge connects the expressway approach road with Mai Chi Tho Street. The two overpasses N3 and N4 connect Mai Chi Tho Street with Dong Van Cong Street.
Mr. Luong Minh Phuc, Director of the Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Traffic Board, investor) said that the An Phu intersection project and Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 are two projects that will be implemented during Tet with about 500 - 600 workers and engineers working in rotation.
At the An Phu intersection project, the project has now reached over 60% of the workload. To ensure progress and open some important items to traffic on the upcoming April 30, contractors are speeding up their work in 3 shifts and 4 shifts, working throughout Tet.
According to Giao thong Newspaper reporters, day and night, the construction site at An Phu intersection is always bustling. The sound of machines rumbling, workers signaling, welding... echoes. Despite working through the night and Tet, workers at the construction site all uphold a sense of responsibility, focus, and meticulousness with their work.

At the XL5 package, Thanh Phat contractor is constructing two closed tunnel segments and one open tunnel segment. Therefore, the contractor organized continuous work, during the Tet holiday to ensure progress, putting the package into operation on April 30. During the Lunar New Year holiday alone, there are three construction teams at the construction site, each team has about 15 - 20 people taking turns working continuously.
"Tet is an occasion for family reunion, so everyone wants to return home to their families. However, this is a key project of the city, the target has been set, so the contractor mobilizes and encourages workers to stay and ensure work. To encourage them, we organize programs such as: wrapping cakes, giving gifts and have a separate reward policy for workers who are motivated to celebrate Tet at the construction site," said Mr. Lai Van Mien, Commander of Thanh Phat contractor.
It is known that the K11 tunnel segment has completed the installation slab, workers are making steel reinforcement to construct the wall slab; the K10 tunnel segment is constructing the bottom slab; the K9 tunnel segment is excavating. The XL5 package is following the detailed schedule, committed to completing the work on schedule.
In particular, Ba Dat Bridge and Giong Ong To 2 Bridge are the first two items that have been completed (before Lunar New Year 2025) but have not been opened to traffic yet and will be opened to traffic at the end of 2025, when the entire An Phu intersection project is completed. (In the photo, Giong Ong To 2 Bridge connects Mai Chi Tho Street with Dong Van Cong Street, with a construction value of nearly 380 billion VND).
Meanwhile, Ba Dat Bridge is located on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway, with a construction value of nearly 185 billion VND. The bridge consists of three units, built between two existing bridges with a total length of about 474m.
Previously, the An Phu intersection project was targeted to be completed by April 30, 2025. However, the implementation process was hampered by site clearance and difficulties in both construction and traffic organization, so it had to be extended until the end of 2025.
During the project implementation, the An Phu intersection area always experienced traffic congestion, especially during rush hours and holidays. The image of cars stuck on the road became more and more common, making people more eager for the project to be completed soon.
The completion of An Phu intersection not only contributes to reducing traffic congestion but is also evidence of the process of innovation and modernization of urban infrastructure in Ho Chi Minh City.
