The model of “Raising colored chickens with product consumption” implemented by the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center since 2023 in Dan Quyen commune, Tam Nong district has brought practical results, increasing income for many local households. The model has been gradually expanded, creating a spread, contributing to the development of livestock farming in a safe and sustainable direction.
The biosafety colored-feather chicken farming model of Ms. Le Thi Van's family in Zone 7, Dan Quyen Commune, Tam Nong District brings high economic efficiency.
The project "Building a model of raising VietGAHP colored-feather broiler chickens, linking cooperatives according to the value chain in some northern provinces" is a national project, chaired by the National Agricultural Extension Center, Hai Phong Agricultural Extension Center in coordination with the Agricultural Extension Centers of Thai Nguyen, Hai Duong, Bac Giang, and Phu Tho provinces.
In June 2023, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center deployed the model of "Raising colored-feathered broiler chickens associated with product consumption" in Dan Quyen commune with 8 participating households. Each household was supported by the project with 1,000 breeding chickens and committed to consuming all output chickens. Participating in the model, households were trained in the process of raising safe biological chickens, and were guided and supported by agricultural extension officers, who showed them how to raise, prevent and treat diseases according to VietGAHP standards, as well as how to invest in building barns, preparing equipment, tools, feed, biological bedding, etc.
Ms. Le Thi Van in Zone 7, Dan Quyen Commune shared: "Previously, my family raised chickens using traditional methods, chickens were susceptible to diseases and had to use a lot of antibiotics, which was a big risk. Participating in the project, thanks to being cared for according to the correct technical process, the chickens grew healthily, with a survival rate of 96%, bringing very high economic efficiency."
Through practical assessment, after 3 months of raising, the VietGAHP colored feather chicken flock has many differences compared to other models. Commercial broiler chickens raised in a biosafety direction are very healthy, have beautiful shiny feathers, no deformities, are certified by VietGAHP, have firm meat, delicious quality, and are very popular in the market. With a selling price of 82,000 - 85,000 VND/kg, after deducting expenses, each household earns a profit of about 300 million VND. In particular, livestock waste is treated with biological products, so the barn has no bad smell, creating a clean environment to help the chickens grow healthily, safely, and protect the environment.
Households participating in the colored-feather chicken farming model are supported with 50% of the cost of purchasing breeds, feed, veterinary medicine, and biological products.
From the success of the model of "Raising colored-feathered broiler chickens associated with product consumption" in Dan Quyen commune, dozens of other households in the commune and neighboring areas have introduced colored-feathered broiler chickens into breeding with a flock size of 500 - 2,000 birds/household. Through the initial support and orientation of the project, households raising colored-feathered broiler chickens in Dan Quyen commune have linked together to establish a breeding cooperative, as a basis for exchanging information on techniques and experiences in caring for and preventing diseases for chickens. At the same time, they have linked together to buy production materials and sell products.
After successfully implementing the model in Dan Quyen commune, in July 2024, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center continued to implement the project to support the VietGAHP colored-feather broiler chicken farming model with a scale of 7,000 chickens for 7 households in Tien Kien commune, Lam Thao district.
Mr. Dang Ngoc Nga - Deputy Director of the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center said: “Phu Tho is one of the localities with many households participating in raising chickens under the project. Through evaluation, it is shown that the models all have high results in terms of economic, social and environmental efficiency, bringing income to farmers, contributing to the development of sustainable chicken farming and limiting environmental pollution. The success of the project helps people ensure food safety and hygiene and environmental hygiene in livestock farming, which is the basis for forming concentrated livestock farming areas in the direction of goods. The model has the potential to develop and expand mass production”.
