Mr. Tien's civet farm was renovated from old pig pens after he stopped raising pigs due to unstable prices.

In 2013, he started experimenting with two pairs of civets bought from a friend. Initially, he planned to raise them for fun, but after learning about this animal, he found that they were easy to raise, so he came up with the idea of expanding the civet herd.

To learn about the habits of civets, Mr. Tien learned about how to raise them at his friend's farm and consulted information on the internet.

Having knowledge about caring for this civet species, in 2014, Mr. Tien started buying more civets to expand his herd.

Mr. Tien's farm is divided into two areas, one for raising commercial civets (meat civets) and one for raising breeding civets (parent civets).

The commercial mink farm is open to visitors, but the breeding mink farm limits entry to strangers and is completely isolated from the outside to ensure a quiet environment.

Civets on the farm are raised in cages with 2 floors, each floor is 0.7 - 0.8m high, made of solid wood surrounded by B40 iron mesh, the doors have strong latches to prevent the civets from getting out.

The civet farming model of Mr. Vo Van Tien, a farmer raising specialty animals in Xom Dinh hamlet, Kieng Phuoc commune, Go Cong Dong district (Tien Giang province). Civets are wild animals, so when raising them commercially, individuals and units must comply with the provisions of the law.

If the cage is for raising minks, the bottom should be made of smooth wooden panels with a gap of about 1cm between the panels so that the baby minks do not get their feet stuck.

According to Mr. Tien, civets like to eat insects (ants, termites), birds, mice or reptiles (snakes, lizards) and some fruits (papaya, ripe bananas, coffee...) or rice.

Currently, he is experimenting with feeding some baby mink with industrial pellets (once a day at 4 p.m.) to limit digestive diseases.

His experience in raising this wild animal focuses on care, applying proper techniques in cage hygiene, and diet to prevent diseases for civets.

Mr. Tien's civet herd currently consists of 80 pairs of male and female civets with a reproductive cycle of 2 litters per year, each litter has 3-7 baby civets depending on the care and food provided during the mating season (from the 9th lunar month of the previous year to the 3rd lunar month of the following year).

Currently, Mr. Tien sells breeding civets (about 3 months old or older) for 10 million VND/pair or more depending on size and weight.

Commercial civets (2.5kg or more) are sold for 1.4 million - 1.5 million VND/kg. Mr. Tien earns a profit of 150 - 200 million VND/year or more.

Thanks to good care, Mr. Tien's civets meet the standards, so many people inside and outside the province come to order, but there is not enough supply.

According to the leader of Kieng Phuoc commune, Go Cong Dong district (Tien Giang province), Mr. Tien's civet farming model both ensures legality (has a license from the competent authority managing wild animals and wildlife) and ensures environmental hygiene around the farming area.

In particular, Mr. Tien is willing and enthusiastic to guide farming techniques for anyone who comes to buy civets from him to raise according to this model.

In the coming time, Mr. Tien will continue to expand the scale of his civet farm and has the idea of calling on some relatives and friends to join in raising civets in order to establish a cooperative or cooperative to build the Go Cong civet brand as well as to link and support in the consumption of civet breeding and meat.
