But unlike the usual photos of parents and relatives taking souvenir photos with bachelors and masters on graduation day, the father in the photo standing next to Khanh Chi passed away 14 years ago in an accident.

Khanh Chi is from the highlands of Con Cuong, Nghe An. After graduating from Hanoi National University of Education, she stayed in the capital and taught at a high school. In 2023, she graduated with a master's degree in history from Hanoi National University of Education.

Graduating from middle school, high school, university and then master's degree, seeing fathers giving flowers and taking souvenir photos with their children, Chi couldn't help but feel sorry for herself.

Her father passed away when she was only 13 years old. Chi grew up under the guidance of her mother - who was both mother and father - but her mother was often sick so she could not be by her side at that time.

Chi's father is tall, has a rough and rugged appearance, so when first meeting him, many people are afraid. But inside that appearance is a sentimental, sweet, gentle, and generous man...

For Chi, her whole world was as small as her father. During her childhood, her grandfather took care of every meal and glass of water. Her mother was busy working, and when she was little, her father would wake up early to prepare her breakfast himself...

She still remembers that day, when her father went out, he said: "I'm going, you stay home and look after the house."

Just a moment later, the little girl received news that her father had an accident and the hospital had sent him home. When little Chi had a heart attack, she fainted on the spot upon hearing that. When her father was taken out of the hospital, her daughter had to go to the emergency room…

Chi and her father have never had the chance to take a photo together. Having her father standing next to her in a photo, especially on important occasions, is something Chi has longed for and cherished.

Talking about the photo of herself in her graduation gown standing next to her father, Khanh Chi said that many years ago, while cleaning her sister's room, she found an old photo album. In it, there was a water-damaged photo of her father and his in-law.

Chi hugged the photo of her father and cried, then carefully preserved it as a keepsake. Afraid that the photo would fade over time, Chi contacted a photo restoration specialist to have the photo restored for her father.

On the day of her master's graduation, without any relatives by her side, Chi cherished her wish to stand next to her father at this moment. She asked the restoration team to create a photo of her father standing next to her.

"When my father passed away, I was still young. Now I'm 27 and my father is still 53" (Photo: NVCC).

When receiving the photo, Chi could not hold back her tears. The daughter felt even more sorry for her father who had passed away so early, unable to witness or be with her on her journey to adulthood…

Starting a business alone in the capital with constant efforts, Chi believes that somewhere her father is always by her side, in her heart, not just in her photos.

Chi said as if to comfort herself about her father's eternal youth: "When you passed away, I was still young. Now I'm 27, but you're still 53. You'll always be young, Dad!"
