On the afternoon of September 22, speaking with Giao Thong Newspaper, Mr. Luc Van Tam, Secretary of the Party Committee of Muong Chanh Commune (Muong Lat District, Thanh Hoa) said that strong floodwaters had flooded and isolated several villages in Muong Chanh Commune.

Floodwater from the upstream of the Vietnam - Laos border flooded provincial road 521E.
According to Mr. Tam, prolonged heavy rains and floodwaters from the upstream of the Vietnam-Laos border caused the Sim stream to rise and flow rapidly, causing serious flooding on provincial road 521E connecting to the center of Muong Lat district.
The flood caused the spillway leading to residential areas to be flooded more than 1 meter deep, with some spots where the water flowed rapidly and rose nearly 2 meters above the surface of the spillway.
Local authorities coordinated with functional forces to handle the flow through the spillway into people's homes.
"Currently, the river water is starting to recede. As of this afternoon, only 3 villages with 206 households (about more than 1,000 people) are isolated due to traffic disruption," said Mr. Luc Van Tam.
Faced with the complicated situation of rain and floods, some sections of the stream were eroded, and there was a risk of flash floods, the Muong Chanh commune government coordinated with forces such as the Border Guard, police, militia, and Economic - National Defense Group 5 to mobilize and evacuate 18 households along the Sim stream to the commune's cultural house, medical station, and cultural houses of the villages to avoid flash floods, and at the same time, transport people's assets to higher points.

People were evacuated to safe places to avoid landslides and flash floods.
In the coming days, with the motto "4 on-site", Muong Chanh commune authorities and functional forces will continue to review and mobilize people not to be subjective, to quickly evacuate to safe locations.
During the flood season, provide food and supplies to prevent people from going hungry. At the same time, arrange forces to guide people not to go through areas with deep water and unsafe overflow bridges.
