The National Bank of Kazakhstan sold 1.89 tons of gold in the fourth quarter of 2024. Only the Central Bank of Singapore sold more, with 7.65 tons of gold in the same period, Xinhua news agency reported.
In Central Asia, Kazakhstan has the second largest gold reserves at 284.05 tonnes, after Uzbekistan at 382.57 tonnes. Globally, Kazakhstan ranks 14th in gold reserves by volume.
However, these are preliminary statistics because the World Gold Council does not have complete data in the fourth quarter of 2024 on the gold reserves of some countries.
Kazakhstan's gold reserves are significantly less than those of India or Japan and 29 times lower than the leader, the United States.
In contrast, Kazakhstan's Central Asian neighbors have increased their gold reserves, with Kyrgyzstan recently adding 12.17 tonnes while Uzbekistan bought another 8.71 tonnes.
The National Bank of Kazakhstan also actively sold gold in the third quarter of 2024, with an amount of nearly 12.9 tons.
