Nunez no longer has a future at Liverpool. |
The Athletic claims it would be a surprise if Nunez remains at Liverpool after the 2025 summer transfer window. The Times confirms Liverpool are already targeting several attacking players, suggesting that parting ways with the Uruguayan striker is only a matter of time.
Liverpool previously rejected an offer for Nunez from Al Nassr during the January 2025 transfer window. At the time, the "The Kop" leadership did not want to let the player leave mid-season without a suitable replacement. However, the current situation is gradually leaning towards a parting of ways.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano added: "The plan has been clear since February and hasn't changed. Nunez will leave Liverpool this summer. After rejecting Al Nassr's offer, Liverpool will consider all options in the coming period. Nunez is also ready for a new chapter in his career."
Inconsistent form and a goal-scoring record that falls short of expectations have put Nunez's position in jeopardy. This season, he has only scored 7 goals in 42 appearances, a modest number for a striker who cost £85 million. Nunez reached 40 goals in 138 games for Liverpool. While not terrible, this is clearly not commensurate with his stature and initial expectations.
Nunez has only started one Premier League game in 2025, a 3-1 win against Southampton. These rare moments of brilliance haven't been enough to salvage his career at Anfield.
