Female Pioneer Leaders (Part 2)

Dai Minh, a lowland commune in Yen Binh district, comprises 6 villages with 994 households and 3,734 inhabitants. Nine ethnic groups live together in the commune, with the Kinh ethnic group accounting for 97% of the population. Currently, the entire commune has 425 hectares of land cultivated with pomelos by 720 households. In 2023, this brought in a total income of 50 billion VND for the people, and many young people in the commune have escaped poverty thanks to citrus fruit cultivation.

Based on the results of her family's economic development, Thuong has actively guided, assisted, and shared her experience with villagers, especially youth union members and militia members, to improve the productivity and quality of pomelo products, meeting market demands. In 2023 alone, she coordinated with the District Social Policy Bank to provide loans totaling over 4 billion VND. Of this amount, 650,000,000 VND was specifically for job creation for youth union members. She also collaborated with the Social Policy Bank to organize training courses on managing and effectively utilizing capital for group leaders under the commune's youth union.

From borrowed capital, Youth Union member Nguyen Van Son of Minh Than village established a honey bee farming cooperative with 5 members, creating jobs for 15 Youth Union members and young people in the area, providing them with a stable income of 4 to 7 million VND/person/month; the beautiful pomelo orchard model of Youth Union member Ta Huu Tinh - Kha Linh village generates an income of 300-400 million VND per year; the integrated citrus fruit farming model of Youth Union member Nguyen Van Hung - Cau Mo village generates an income of 250-300 million VND per year; the forest product processing model of Youth Union member Pham Quang Giap - Lang Can village helps create jobs for 12 Youth Union members and young people in the area; the honey bee farming model from a pomelo orchard of Youth Union member Nguyen Van Hao - Minh Than village generates an income of over 200 million VND per year...

To date, Thuong has supported youth union members in establishing 2 cooperatives and 3 youth-led cooperative groups with a total of 30 youth union members participating, and has also introduced 25 youth union members to other cooperatives in the district. She has also assisted 8 militia members in the village, each of whom has earned between 80 and 100 million VND per year applying the model.

In addition, Thuong actively promoted and encouraged households in the village to participate in cooperatives, the Dai Minh Pomelo Cooperative and the Dai Minh Agricultural Service Cooperative. Among them, 22 members of the militia have joined as members, and Thuong has guided them in applying digital transformation in planting, caring for, and selling pomelos. She also helped households create QR codes for tracing the origin of pomelos and selling pomelo products on e-commerce platforms.

As the Secretary of the Youth Union of Dai Minh commune and a member of the Steering Committee for New Rural Development in Dai Minh commune, Thuong, together with the Executive Committee, organized many activities to promote the Youth Union's movement on "Dai Minh youth joining hands to build a model new rural commune," linked with Youth Union and association activities to attract and mobilize members and young people to participate in the activities of the Youth Union organization.

During the period 2021-2023, the youth union members of Dai Minh commune renovated 3.5 km of rural roads, widened a 5m road and concreted it, contributing to Yen Binh district's early achievement of the New Rural District goal in 2023; built and launched 6 youth-managed roads; organized the planting, care and management of 2.8 km of flower-lined roads; organized the establishment and launch of youth self-management groups for collecting pesticide packaging, installed 28 garbage collection pits in all 6 village branches; and built and launched 2 self-managed youth road models "Bright - Green - Clean and Beautiful" in Lang Can and Dai Than village branches. Each model attracted 20 members to participate in the self-management group with a total road length of 1.2 km.

From the beginning of 2022 to the present, the Youth Union of the commune has organized 25 labor sessions, mobilizing over 500 man-days of labor from its members and young people. These activities included cleaning village roads and alleys, building road shoulders, planting and caring for flowers along internal village roads in 6 villages within the commune; and constructing a children's playground and reinforcing a volleyball court for the village with a total cost of 12,000,000 VND, of which the Youth Union contributed and solicited donations totaling 2,500,000 VND. This activity attracted 25 man-days of labor from Youth Union members and young people to participate in completing the project in collaboration with the village. 22 waste bins were installed in the fields of 6 villages in the area and assigned to local branches to manage and maintain the "Waste bins for collecting pesticide packaging" model. Environmental protection campaigns were organized with activities to collect pesticide packaging in the fields on a regular basis. For many years, Hoang Thi Hong Thuong has received numerous prestigious awards from various levels and sectors, including certificates of merit and commendations. In 2023 alone, Thuong received a Certificate of Merit from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union for outstanding achievements in youth union work and youth movements, winning the "October 15th" award in 2023, and four certificates of merit, including one from the Yen Binh District Military Command for winning second prize in the Provincial-level Competition for Excellent Political Teaching Cadres in 2023.

Always taking the lead and setting a good example, while successfully fulfilling assigned tasks and developing the family economy to ensure social welfare, contributing to building a warm and happy family, with well-behaved, studious, and filial children, is crucial because "the family is the cell of society." For many years, Thuong's family has been recognized by the People's Committee of the commune as a model cultural family, exemplary in implementing the regulations and customs of the village, and their children consistently achieve high academic results.
