Quynh Nhu became the valedictorian of the Pharmaceutical Technology, Cosmetics and Plant Protection majors, Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
During her time studying at the School of Chemistry and Life Sciences, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Vu Quynh Nhu also impressed with her role as an exemplary class monitor.
Set goals early
As soon as she got her university entrance exam results, Quynh Nhu set herself the goal of studying and practicing from the beginning to accumulate knowledge and experience so that she could have better job opportunities in the future.
The female valedictorian confided: “To achieve the title of valedictorian of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, I or any other student had to go through a very difficult journey. But any success has a price, the greater the success, the higher the price.”
According to Quynh Nhu, one of the initial difficulties she encountered when entering university was approaching new knowledge and learning methods, so she needed to develop initiative, self-awareness, and a much higher scientific approach than in high school.
Furthermore, the specific characteristics of the Pharmaceutical Technology, Cosmetics and Plant Protection industries are interdisciplinary, requiring knowledge from different fields. Therefore, students face many difficulties in acquiring and applying theoretical knowledge into practice.
“Over the past four years, I have tried very hard, regularly studied documents, put aside my own shortcomings to learn more from my seniors, teachers, and friends to help me study better every day,” said the new valedictorian.
Regarding learning methods, Quynh Nhu focuses on three main groups of issues: studying in class, studying in groups with friends and self-studying at home. Regarding learning methods in class, the female student focuses on preparing lessons before class and proactively asking teachers about knowledge she does not understand.
At the same time, Quynh Nhu considers studying in groups with friends as a good opportunity for her to review her knowledge and strengthen friendships when she doesn't have much time to hang out with everyone.
Sharing about the self-study method, Quynh Nhu added: “Self-study is one of the very important factors to conquer knowledge. The knowledge that teachers teach in class is very important. Therefore, I always try to understand the knowledge that teachers impart. If I don’t understand something, I study by myself and research more related knowledge to understand it more clearly and deeply.”
In addition, Quynh Nhu also consults and practices some advanced learning methods such as methods to change herself to become better. Every day, the female student often spends a certain amount of time to learn new skills.
Find a topic early for your graduation project
Becoming the valedictorian of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Quynh Nhu said that she successfully completed her graduation project with the topic "Synthesis of new derivatives of Indirubin and Zerumbone, with potential in cancer treatment", achieving a score of 9.8/10.
The new valedictorian shared: “Radiotherapy and chemotherapy are currently the most effective treatments for cancer patients, but they come with a series of side effects. Therefore, I am researching this issue so that in the future I can successfully create products of natural origin to support cancer treatment that are safer and have fewer side effects.”
The graduation project took place in 4 months with 8 credits. Quynh Nhu had to undertake many tasks such as reading documents, research papers, designing new derivatives and synthesizing in the laboratory, analyzing and determining the product structure, etc. Performing many tasks at the same time, the new valedictorian said that she did not have difficulty doing it because she had "cherished" the topic for a long time.
The female student further emphasized that not only students majoring in Pharmaceutical Technology, Cosmetics and Plant Protection, but also students of other majors should proactively search for topics early, preferably when they have just entered their second year. If you wait until your final year to start looking for topics for your project, it is too late.
For 4 consecutive years, Quynh Nhu has won 7 consecutive school-level scholarships, achieving a TOEIC certificate of 960/990 points. Although she spends a lot of time studying, Quynh Nhu still fulfills her responsibilities as a class monitor, not disappointing the expectations of her teachers and friends. At the same time, Quynh Nhu also actively participates in many volunteer activities of the class and the school.
The new valedictorian said that to achieve so many achievements at the same time, each young person needs to have passion: "If you are truly passionate, you will know how to allocate time properly, not letting activities overlap."
Accompanying Quynh Nhu during 4 years of university, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi Thuy - Lecturer at Hanoi University of Science and Technology highly appreciated the efforts and achievements of the students.
“Quynh Nhu is a very hard-working, gentle student with many good academic achievements. As a class officer, she manages the class very well, always helps and gets along with her friends. I really like Quynh Nhu and hope that in the future she will continue to achieve more success.”
Currently, Quynh Nhu is working for a foreign company in food plastics. “I feel interested and realize that the plastics industry has opportunities to develop in Vietnam. Therefore, I registered for a master's degree and applied for a scholarship from the RoHan Foundation (studying abroad in Germany) to have the opportunity to become a PhD student in the plastics industry, and then return to Vietnam to work,” Quynh Nhu said.
