Le Thi Duc Ngoc graduated as valedictorian from An Giang University with an impressive score of 3.98/4.00. Before becoming valedictorian, Ngoc was admitted to a full scholarship program integrating master's and doctoral degrees in multimedia engineering at Dongguk University (Korea) with a scholarship worth more than 2 billion VND.
"We are all flowers, each has its time to bloom"
Talking about the reason for choosing Korea as the destination for the female valedictorian's next journey, Ngoc shared: "Since high school, I have intended to study abroad in Korea to meet my idol. Korea is also a country with strong technological development. However, at that time, my profile had nothing but a transcript. I did not participate in extracurricular activities, did not have an English certificate... so I thought that I would not be able to compete with other students". Ngoc's strength is scientific research. The female student from An Giang owns 1 school-level scientific research paper, 1 article published in an international journal and 3 reports at international conferences. Ngoc said that the people who chose her were professors in Korea, so she expressed her desire to study abroad in Korea and the research experience she had in her admission essay.

When she heard that she had received the scholarship, Ngoc could not help but be moved. "I am very happy, proud and grateful to my teachers for creating opportunities for me; my family and friends have always supported and encouraged me when I had difficulties. I believe that this is the result of my efforts and hard work," Ngoc choked up. The valedictorian always believes that each of us is like a flower, and everyone will have a time to bloom. Therefore, when she does not do well, Ngoc does not blame herself. The female student encourages herself to keep trying. There will come a time when the flower in her will bloom most brilliantly... Ngoc will enroll in September this year. Ngoc will have 2 years of master's program and 2 years of doctoral program at Dongguk University (Korea). However, the female student still wants to return to Vietnam to work. Besides, she also cherishes the idea of establishing a club at Dongguk University to learn about Vietnamese culture and connect Vietnamese international students.
Journey to 'hunt' for double valedictorians
In early August, Ngoc also excelled in becoming the school's valedictorian with an impressive average score of 3.98/4. Before that, the female student was also the school's second-place winner and the valedictorian of the software engineering major. Recalling her feelings when she learned that she was the double valedictorian, Ngoc confided: "I am very proud to be the school's valedictorian. I really want to study abroad to gain experience and improve my professional knowledge, so from my first year, I have always tried to maintain an average score of over 8.0 in all subjects and tried to learn more foreign languages."

Talking about the reason for choosing software engineering, a major that few women study, Ngoc explained: "I am passionate about machines and electronic devices. Besides, I have had a strong love for math since my high school years. So I wanted to be able to choose a major that could apply math to life. In my family, my second sister is an IT teacher, so that also partly influenced my decision to choose a major that focuses on computers." Despite her impressive achievements, Ngoc also encountered many difficulties in the early stages of university. Ngoc was not used to the difficult knowledge, and she was shy and had difficulty communicating with friends when working in groups when only 10% of the class was female. The female student said that there was a time when she was discouraged and doubtful about her major and thought she would not study abroad anymore. "Luckily, after a field trip with the faculty, I got to know the head of the faculty, Associate Professor, Dr. Doan Thanh Nghi, and was guided by him and began my journey of scientific research. Only then did I feel inspired to return to my major and plan to continue studying abroad," Ngoc shared. Ngoc also honestly said that she was not good at time management and had no special secret to becoming valedictorian. To learn well, the female student often reads the lesson before class and pays attention to the lecture, boldly asking the lecturer whenever she does not understand the lesson. In addition to the textbooks introduced by the teachers, Ngoc also proactively researches external documents. Before each exam, the female valedictorian also looks for test questions from previous courses to try. In addition, Ngoc also actively participates in groups to learn about the exam questions, exchanges with friends and seniors about the knowledge she has learned from related projects. This is how the female student practices applying theory to the exam and real life. In addition to studying at school, Ngoc also regularly participates in extracurricular activities, international exchange programs in Singapore, Thailand, etc. Ngoc said that these activities make her more confident in her ability to connect and communicate. She also has more relationships, and her ability to work in groups is improved. Ngoc is also the only female student to be honored in the field of software engineering with the "Vietnam Female Science and Technology Student Award 2023" presented by the Central Youth Union and the Ministry of Science and Technology. The award honors female students with outstanding academic and research achievements in a number of specific fields of science and technology, contributing to training quality female science and technology staff to participate in the development of the country.
Commenting on Ngoc, Associate Professor, Dr. Doan Thanh Nghi, Head of the Faculty of Information Technology, An Giang University, shared: "In studying, Ngoc is a studious student, active in self-study, self-research and always achieves the best results in studying. In scientific research, you are a quick-witted person, grasping new knowledge very well. Wherever I guide you, you can do it. With just a few instructions, you can research and write scientific articles on your own. Those articles have been published in prestigious international journals, listed in Scopus and Web of Science".
