Recently, in the 8th “My Beautiful Encounter with China” contest in 2024 organized by the Chinese Ministry of Education, Vietnamese female student Nguyen Huyen Anh won the First Prize in the Writing category. Nguyen Huyen Anh, born in 2004, is currently a 3rd year student at the Institute of Chinese Language and International Education, Beijing Normal University, China.

“I am very happy and surprised to be one of the lucky winners. Because every year there are more than 1,000 works submitted and in total for both categories there are only 8 first prizes, 13 second prizes, 26 third prizes and 76 consolation prizes awarded. This honor is not only for me but also belongs to all the teachers who have taught and helped me, my family and friends, who have stood behind me to support me,” Huyen Anh shared.

Talking about the content of this excellent article, Huyen Anh said that she sees Chinese culture as a soul mate, using the form of writing letters and quoting ancient poems to express her feelings.

The contest was launched in 2017 to encourage foreigners living and working in China to share and spread their stories about themselves and China through writing or video. The winning entries in the writing category will be published in a book of the same name by the People's Daily Publishing House.

Huyen Anh was awarded First Prize and her work was published in the book "My beautiful encounter with China" by Nhan Dan Daily Publishing House.

With her passion for Chinese language and culture, Huyen Anh has received many other remarkable awards such as Third Prize in the "Chinese Character Fate" Competition at the 2024 International Storytelling Congress organized by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries; Tea Literature Award in the first "Cup Mong Dinh Cam Lo" Competition in 2024.

At the Institute level, Huyen Anh won First Prize in the Writing Competition of the Institute of Chinese Language International Education, Beijing Normal University, Fall 2023 and Fall 2024; Second Prize in the Singing Competition of the Institute of Chinese Language International Education, Beijing Normal University, 2023 and 2024.

Previously, while studying in the Chinese specialized class at the Foreign Language Specialized High School, University of Foreign Languages, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (2019-2023 course), Huyen Anh also won many awards while studying high school in Vietnam such as the Encouragement Prize in the National Excellent Student Competition in Chinese in 2022, 2023; First Prize in the Hanoi National University Olympic Competition in Chinese in 2022; Silver Medal in the Excellent Student Competition in the Northern Coastal and Delta Region in Chinese in 2022; Third Prize in the Chinese Character Spelling Competition in 2022.

In 2020, Huyen Anh won the 1-year Confucius Scholarship at the age of only 15. Notably, she was the youngest student among those who received the scholarship that year.

Proud that Vietnamese food is becoming more and more famous

The Beijing Normal University student shared that her passion for Chinese language and culture came to her at a young age: “In the past, when I was exposed to Chinese movies and music, I became curious and started to be interested in this language. The more I learned, the more passionate I became and I have been attached to it until now.”

After receiving a scholarship to study at the Foreign Language Specialized High School, in August 2023, Huyen Anh officially went to Beijing to study Chinese Language and Culture at university. This is a country that has long been famous for its pressure and harshness in education. Chinese students often try very hard to achieve the best academic results and international students are also inadvertently caught up in this stream of life.

Huyền Anh believes that no achievement comes easily because behind it is a long process of effort, trying and constantly developing oneself. However, when witnessing the hard work of parents, teachers, peers, all those who are working hard out there, Huyền Anh finds her fatigue very small. Every time like that, she tells herself to try and try harder, so as not to disappoint everyone's expectations.

Huyen Anh had wonderful experiences in China and always misses Vietnamese food.

After more than 1 year of studying in China, in addition to the intense study time, Huyen Anh also recorded for herself memorable experiences. She has traveled to many places to admire the majestic nature (Alxa desert - Inner Mongolia; Hulun Buir grassland - Inner Mongolia; Ergun ecological area - Inner Mongolia) as well as experience the unique culture (Sanxingdui relics and Dujiangyan irrigation works - Chengdu, Sichuan... Her upcoming plan will be to go to new cities to experience and explore Chinese culture and nature such as going to Anhui to learn about Xuan ink and paper, going to Fujian to learn about Baixi Tea...

However, for Huyen Anh, the most memorable days of studying away from home are Vietnamese food: "Every time I go to the mall and see a Vietnamese restaurant, I miss my homeland and am proud that Vietnamese food is becoming more and more famous among international friends."

Revealing her upcoming plans, Huyen Anh said: "After finishing my Bachelor's degree, I will continue to study for a Master's degree in China."
