Instead of taking the bus to school, on the morning of December 13, Linh Lan anxiously waited in front of her computer screen. This was the day Harvard University (USA) announced the results of the Early Decision exam. At 7am, she opened her email and saw the words "Congratulations" appear. The female student burst into tears because she did not expect to be accepted to this prestigious school. Teachers, school and friends congratulated her in a "storm" of phone calls. She is also one of the few candidates from Hanoi to be admitted to the prestigious Harvard University up to now. With 5 supplementary essays and one main essay, Linh Lan was highly appreciated by Harvard University. In which, the main essay she presented on a topic that is not of interest to today's youth: Why do you like studying history? From this topic, she wrote about her passion for preserving culture in the developing era.

In the 5 supplementary essays, the essay she is most proud of is about her family's restaurant. Thanks to it, she has experienced interpreting for customers since she was a child. From here, the female student brought up the issue of language and business in approaching many international customers. Linh Lan said that she was lucky to study in an international environment since kindergarten. In primary school, she studied at a British international school. In secondary school, she moved to another international environment because Spanish was taught there: "In America, Spanish is very popular," Linh Lan said.

She started "slowly" studying for the ACT (the top college entrance exam in the US) from grade 6. "All of the above orientations are aimed at the sole goal of being admitted to a prestigious university in the US, of which Harvard is the number 1 choice and dream," the female student shared. During the summer of grade 10 and 11, Linh Lan researched, registered, and took the exam to participate in two summer camps at Harvard University. For 7 weeks, the little girl stayed at the Harvard University dormitory and chose her own subjects. "On the first day of school, I was overwhelmed. The school left a lot of impressions on me, urging me to strive at all costs to be admitted to this prestigious school," Linh Lan said.

Loves books, sports, good at playing musical instruments

It is known that at Concordia International School , Linh Lan has an average score of the top 3 in the whole school. She is fluent in English, Spanish, and also knows Chinese and French. Linh Lan is also the President of the Business Club - DECA (business club) with the participation of more than 400 students and 18 high schools nationwide. As President of the Club, Linh Lan helps expand the DECA business club to both private and public schools in Vietnam, coordinating with all DECA branch presidents in Vietnam to plan for the National Case Study Competition and two regional competitions. The female student also won first prize twice in the AI ​​JAM International Project, in which one topic was related to accident prevention; the second topic was about conserving endangered birds in Vietnam using AI technology. Also in 2024, she continued to win the bronze prize in the Vietnam DECA national competition.

"Since I was little, I have had the habit of reading all books in English. On trips abroad with my mother since I was little, most of the suitcases I brought back were books. Books filled my room, even spilling over to other rooms," the female student said. With her admission to Harvard, Linh Lan hopes to achieve her dream of becoming an economic lawyer from this prestigious school: "The image of the female CEO in the American TV series SUITS - a film revolving around the life of a famous law firm in New York - has haunted me for many years. In it, the female CEO was accepted into the company because she graduated from Harvard Law School. I want to be like her"!

Ms. Do Thuy Linh, Linh Lan's mother, said that her daughter's greatest strengths are her confidence and perseverance. "Sometimes I wonder where she gets so much positive energy. Many days, she still exercises after both her regular classes and extracurricular activities until 8pm. Even when she takes antibiotics, she still exercises because she does not allow herself to neglect her discipline," Ms. Linh said. Mr. Ben Compton, university advisor at Concordia International School, commented that Linh Lan is an enthusiastic young person, always eager to explore new horizons of knowledge. With a curious and studious soul, Linh Lan diligently researches history extensively, especially Vietnamese history.

"In addition to being an excellent student, Linh Lan is also a talented leader. She demonstrates her leadership ability through her role as co-director of DECA Vietnam and editor of the school's internal magazine. She not only possesses a wealth of knowledge but also has a warm heart, always ready to help others, which is a shining example for the younger generation to follow," said teacher Ben Compton.
In 2024, Harvard University ranked fourth in both THE and QS world university rankings. It has the lowest acceptance rate among the eight elite universities in the United States (Ivy League).
