More than 15 international conferences and exchange scholarships; proficiency in 3 languages: English, Chinese, Korean; more than 20 large and small awards are the numbers proving the dedication in international exchange and integration of female student Trinh Hai Dang, University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University).
First steps
When she was in middle school, Hai Dang said she was so weak in English that she didn’t know how to conjugate verbs or basic tenses. In her senior year, seeing how talented her classmates were, Dang told herself she had to be determined to learn a foreign language.
Trinh Hai Dang always actively participates in international exchange programs.

In 2019, when he became a student of sociology at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City and was confident with his accumulated English, Dang registered for the Ho Chi Minh City English Speaking Contest and won first prize. Before that, Dang won second prize in the Youth Speaking Contest.
In the activities of the Youth Union and Association, the female student from Nghe An also left her mark, such as: a certificate of merit from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Student Association for individuals with outstanding achievements in the Association's work and student movements in the 2021-2022 school year; twice won the title of "Typical Advanced Youth Following Uncle Ho's Teachings" at the school level...
According to Dang, with the core goal of learning, he is always open-minded and does not make it difficult for himself when participating in academic competitions. In addition, Dang also constantly improves his Chinese and Korean. "I will allocate my weekly schedule reasonably so that I can learn 3 languages. During the review process, I will watch inspirational videos many times, then watch the subtitles to read them over and over again," Dang "gives tips" on how to learn foreign languages effectively.
In addition, Dang is also enthusiastic about participating in bilingual program hosting or some community service projects. For Dang, these are the prerequisites that help her reach out to the "big sea".
Active integration
During the social distancing period due to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021, Dang persistently applied and was accepted into 4 online international exchange programs, notably becoming one of 10 Vietnamese delegates to attend the 5th Student Council Conference. However, it was not until he had the opportunity to directly attend the 3rd ASEAN Conference on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in 2022 in Thailand that Dang truly opened his eyes.
Last July, Dang also had the opportunity to attend the 2023 Global Youth Conference in Korea.
Specifically, at that time, except for Dang, most of the delegates from other countries were majoring in law. Therefore, when listening to them present their professional knowledge, he could not help but be overwhelmed. However, Dang remained calm to present his views from a sociological perspective.
"Fortunately, everyone was very open to listening, even the President of the Thai Institute of Justice praised my presentation. Since then, I have improved my presentation skills and critical thinking as well as gained more understanding about law, technology, and politics," Dang said.
In the same year 2022, Dang will also have the opportunity to participate in other events such as the Southeast Asia - Japan Youth Ship, the Asian Law Students Association Forum...
Notably, last May, Dang was one of 22 Southeast Asian youths attending the 42nd ASEAN Summit. This was a valuable opportunity that Dang had from participating in the ASEAN Youth Dialogue (AYD) program that took place in April. Dang said: "After the AYD program, the National Committee on Vietnamese Youth and the International Department of the Central Youth Union selected me to become one of two Vietnamese delegates to attend the 42nd ASEAN Summit. This important event has made me more aware of the responsibility of youth in the digital age."
At the conference, Dang and delegates presented a policy recommendation on "Digital Development towards Sustainable Development Goals". Before that, Dang read books, newspapers, and researched many sources of documents to gain knowledge about ASEAN as well as Vietnam's relationship with Southeast Asian countries.
Looking back on his journey of applying for international exchange programs, Dang concluded that the essay is a factor that accounts for 60% of the application's score with the review board. "In the essay, I often emphasize three main points: personal story, my contribution to the program, and my ability to contribute to the community in the future. The essay must be concise, concise, and portray a portrait of myself," Dang said.
As a classmate and companion of Dang since his first days in university, Pham Thi Nga shared: "Dang works with all his heart and always devotes himself to the emulation movements of the Youth Union and Association. In addition, I really appreciate Dang because he lives a disciplined, orderly life and is always friendly with everyone. Therefore, I am proud that Dang has achieved remarkable achievements for himself."
