Nguyen Minh Anh, a former student of the Foreign Language High School, has just won a full scholarship from the Japanese Government (MEXT).

Before that, this girl born in 2005 had an impressive record: Near-perfect score in the N1 Japanese proficiency test (176/180), 8.0 IELTS, first prize in the National University-level excellent student selection contest in Japanese, first prize in the speech contest organized by the Honorary Consul of Vietnam in Nagoya...

From the first steps in the "land of the rising sun"

Minh Anh shared that she was lucky to have been exposed to Japan since she was over a year old - when her family moved to the land of the rising sun because her father worked there. Her first steps on this land, the naive songs of her childhood taught by Japanese teachers... have become something special to Minh Anh.

And the opportunity to travel to Japan came to Minh Anh once again when she was in elementary school until she was about to enter middle school and also when she went to Japan with her parents for work.

The four years (from grade 5 to grade 8) studying and living in Japan were extremely meaningful to Minh Anh, nurturing in her a love for the country and its people, from which her life's dreams were kindled.

Minh Anh said that she did not choose to study at an international school but chose a purely Japanese environment, so with her limited Japanese, Minh Anh really had difficulty going to school, and sometimes she felt discouraged.

When they saw a Vietnamese student misspelled her name on the label of her notebook, the Japanese students corrected it for Minh Anh, teaching her in Japanese, making the little girl "even more confused". However, she felt very happy and warm.

In addition, the stories about Japan that I heard from my father during meals and daily life helped the "Japanese" quality in me gradually grow from there, making me always curious about the country that rose from the hardships of war and harsh nature to assert itself, becoming a country with the 3rd largest economy in the world, admired by the whole world.

The road to dreams

At that time, when the future career plans were not really clear, Minh Anh always thought that she would stick with Japan and would try her best to be a bridge between Vietnam and Japan, not because that was the path her father guided her to follow, but because her heart told her to.

"Returning to Vietnam, my dominant thought was to build a roadmap to return to Japan on my own two feet. I wanted to write the story of my 18th year - the most beautiful youth of my life there. Therefore, Japan is my dream, MEXT is my destination," Minh Anh shared.

Having a beautiful profile towards MEXT is an arduous journey that I always tell myself to "try 101% every day".

Not only do I have to continue my journey to conquer Japanese, I also have to pass important exams such as transferring to a higher level in Vietnam, according to the Vietnamese curriculum.

Despite having the advantage of having studied in Japan, the first days back to Vietnam to study the final year of secondary school were really challenging because the knowledge of literature and math in Vietnam was very different from what he learned in Japan. In his first literature test, Minh Anh received a "perfect score of 2".

Thanks to her outstanding efforts and belief in her dream, Minh Anh successfully passed the entrance exams to 3 schools: Foreign Language High School, Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted and Chu Van An High School.

Minh Anh then chose the Foreign Language Specialized High School, Japanese language class to study. The journey to the MEXT scholarship then really began.

The little girl set herself new goals and challenges, including passing the N1 exam - the highest level in the Japanese proficiency test, and achieving the best possible results in the IELTS exam.

Not only trying to have a beautiful profile, Minh Anh also put a lot of effort into her essay about her plan and motivation to study in Japan when applying for the MEXT scholarship.

With good Japanese skills, clear thinking and specific future plans, Minh Anh passed the application round. After that, she spent a lot of time studying for the written exam of the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam with three subjects: math (in Japanese), Japanese, and English. As a result, Minh Anh excellently passed the exam.

After passing the written exam, Minh Anh focused all her efforts on the oral exam in both Japanese and English.

Sweet ending

Finally, after months of tireless efforts, Minh Anh burst into happiness when her name was called by the MEXT scholarship. That was probably the sweet "summary" of her chosen dream, the dream of becoming a bridge between the two countries of Vietnam and Japan, as she herself stated in her essay.

"In Vietnam, I have Vietnamese friendships, experience culture and customs, understand more about the country and people of Vietnam, and from there love my country more. Vietnamese "quality" or Japanese "quality" are both indispensable parts if I want to grasp my dream in my hands," the girl born in 2005 shared.

Unable to hide her excitement about winning the scholarship and completing her goal, Minh Anh appeared quite calm, because she understood that life is a "race with many stages".

Studying at university under the MEXT scholarship program for a very long time, Minh Anh always determined to be independent in studying and life.

"If my first steps were my father leading me on the resilient land of Japan, and my dreams were also woven from the years I lived with my parents on that land, then now, on the journey back, I walk on my own feet, the feet of an 18-year-old who are mature enough and big enough to conquer my dreams," Minh Anh affirmed.
