Female bank employee embezzled nearly 6 billion VND to invest in virtual currency

On November 8, the Criminal Police Department of Da Nang City Police announced that it had just arrested a female bank employee for fraud and appropriation of property by borrowing money at maturity and then appropriating it.

Through investigation, the police identified Cu Thi Hoai Thanh (31 years old, residing in Lien Chieu district, Da Nang) as an employee of the Joint Stock Commercial Bank (Song Han Branch).

While working at the bank, Thanh got to know Ms. Nguyen Thi DK (residing in Da Nang City), so from September 2022 to the end of 2023, Thanh borrowed money from Ms. K. many times to complete bank maturity procedures and pay interest and principal in full.

However, in November 2023, because he needed money to pay off his debt, Thanh lied that he needed money to pay off the debt so that Ms. K. would trust him and lend him 3.35 billion VND.

After receiving the money, Thanh used it to pay off debt and invest in virtual currency but lost all his money and was unable to pay.

In addition, from May 2023 to July 2023, using similar tricks, Thanh borrowed 2.5 billion VND from Mr. Nguyen Van N. (residing in Da Nang City) and also used it to pay off debt, invest in virtual currency, and lost everything.

From related evidence, the Investigation Police Agency of Da Nang City Police has temporarily detained Cu Thi Hoai Thanh for the act of "Fraudulent appropriation of property".

To serve the investigation and expand the case, the Investigation Police Agency would like to inform anyone who is a victim of Cu Thi Hoai Thanh to contact the Criminal Police Department to report and receive instructions on how to handle the case.
