Last June, Ms. Cam Tu (born in 1998, Hanoi) had a summer trip to Quan Lan Island (Van Don, Quang Ninh) with her family. After the first morning of walking around "Infinity Hill", Ms. Tu returned to the hotel for lunch.

During the meal, in addition to ordering familiar seafood dishes such as shrimp, crab, and crab, Ms. Tu was curious and ordered a bowl of sea worm soup.

Sandworms, also known as sea worms, earthworms, ginseng... live in abundance on the coasts of Quang Ninh. This is known as an expensive "rich man's" specialty. 1kg of dried sandworms costs about 3-4 million VND. The price of fresh sandworms after being cleaned of sand and dirt and having their intestines removed ranges from about 500,000 - 800,000 VND/kg, depending on the time. This seafood is considered a precious medicine in Oriental medicine that helps cool the body and improve health.

"My family had a delicious lunch. After that, we all went back to our room to rest. When I woke up, I felt like I was coughing and sneezing continuously. When I was a child, I had asthma and sinusitis, so I thought that if I went to the island to change the weather and adjust my breathing for a while, I would be fine," said Ms. Tu. Therefore, the whole family still traveled from Quan Lan to Minh Chau for sightseeing.

"While checking in at the sand dunes, I started having difficulty breathing, my face turned red and swollen, then turned purple. Seeing unusual signs, my family took me back to Quan Lan medical station," Ms. Tu said. Upon arrival, medical staff measured my heart rate, blood pressure, examined me, and said that Ms. Tu was in level 3 anaphylactic shock.

"The medical staff quickly gave me an injection to treat anaphylactic shock. About 10 minutes later, I could breathe normally but my face was still swollen, my eyes were red and squinted. I stayed at the station until 7pm for the nurses to monitor me and then asked to go back to the hotel to rest. My family was very worried, luckily the staff here had a lot of experience," said Ms. Tu.

The short video Ms. Tu shared received 2.5 million views and more than 1,300 comments.

After listening to Ms. Tu talk about the dishes she had enjoyed as well as her history of allergies, the medical staff said that the cause of the allergy was most likely due to sea worms. "The nurses at the medical station said that many tourists to the island had experienced the same condition as me when enjoying sea worms," Ms. Tu said.

According to the female tourist, this sea worm soup is very delicious. In her family of four, only she has an allergy.

Returning to Hanoi, Ms. Tu made a video sharing this rare incident to warn people to be careful when enjoying strange seafood. The short video unexpectedly received more than 2.5 million views. In the comments, many tourists said that they had also experienced seafood allergies while traveling to the beach.

Seafood is a nutritious food but is also a food group that can easily cause allergies. Tourists may experience itchy rashes, uncomfortable hangovers or more seriously, difficulty breathing, nausea, abdominal pain, facial swelling... If the condition becomes severe, tourists should seek medical attention at the tourist destination for timely examination and treatment. When eating strange seafood dishes, it is recommended that tourists try a little at a time.

"Apart from the allergic reaction, I was still very satisfied with the trip. Quan Lan is very beautiful, wild and peaceful, visitors have the opportunity to immerse themselves in nature. The most impressive thing for me is the people on the island. They are friendly, enthusiastic and very kind," said Ms. Tu.

When seeing Ms. Tu having difficulty breathing and her family said that her sinusitis might have relapsed, people around her rushed to borrow sinus medicine and then enthusiastically showed the family the way to the medical station.

While traveling around the island, Ms. Tu accidentally dropped her phone. While she had not yet discovered the incident, the person who found it contacted Ms. Tu's mother and came to return it.

"If I have the chance, I will still come back to Quan Lan to experience more of this land," the female tourist shared.

Quan Lan is a small island in Bai Tu Long Bay, Van Don District, Quang Ninh Province. With a modest area of about 11 square kilometers, the island has many long beaches, white sand, and clear blue water. Quan Lan is most beautiful in the summer, especially from April to the end of June when the weather is not too hot and there are no storms.

Renting a room by a stream to 'heal', a Hanoi tourist receives an 'unbelievable ending' A female tourist from Hanoi went to Ba Khan (Mai Chau, Hoa Binh) to rent a room by a stream to relax. However, instead of a peaceful, babbling stream, the group of guests were surprised when the water flowed so hard that it "washed away the entire room".
