The jewelry industry is not yet on the digital transformation priority list.

Ms. Ngo Thi Thao, General Director of HanaGold Jewelry Joint Stock Company , said that in recent times, the Government has always paid attention to and closely directed the "hot" issues of the gold industry, such as directing the State Bank to issue policies to help develop the domestic gold industry, while ensuring the actual buying and selling needs of domestic people and keeping up with world market trends.

However, according to Ms. Ngo Thi Thao, the jewelry industry currently has some shortcomings such as: listed gold prices are not transparent, market information is difficult to update, the difference between buying and selling is difficult to control and there is a lack of common standards for transactions.

Ms. Ngo Thi Thao, General Director of HanaGold Jewelry Joint Stock Company, proposed favorable policies for pioneering units in digital transformation in the jewelry industry.

In particular, according to this businesswoman, the leading enterprises in digital transformation in the gold industry have not received strong enough support in terms of policies as well as opportunities to develop advanced technology in this field. "The jewelry industry has not been on the priority list for digital transformation to upgrade and protect the interests of Vietnamese consumers" - the female General Director raised the issue.

Faced with the above situation, Ms. Ngo Thi Thao proposed specific policies to create more favorable conditions for pioneering units in digital transformation in the jewelry industry, thereby helping to increase transparency and the development of the Vietnamese gold industry in the future.

Want the US to restore the old tax rate

At the meeting, Ms. Le Thanh Truc, Deputy Director of Kim Hung Cooperative, a unit specializing in the production and export of handicrafts woven from natural materials, said that currently more than 80% of the cooperative's products are exported to the US market, creating jobs for thousands of rural workers. However, recently, the US imposed a basic tax of 10% and an additional 46% reciprocal tax (currently extended for 90 days), severely affecting key products such as rice, seafood, food, aluminum and handicrafts - which are the strengths of the Mekong Delta - while previously enjoying a 0% tax rate.

"This is causing negative impacts on the competitiveness of Vietnamese export enterprises. This tax increase not only affects the operations of enterprises but also threatens the livelihoods of millions of workers in our country," said Ms. Le Thanh Truc.

Faced with the above situation, the Deputy Director of Kim Hung Cooperative proposed that the Government and Central Ministries and Branches soon have support solutions, and at the same time consider negotiating with partners to restore the previous tax rate or a more suitable one. In addition, Ms. Le Thanh Truc also proposed that the Government and relevant Ministries and Branches have specific strategic directions for key industries that need to be prioritized for development in the Mekong Delta region in the coming time.

Concerns about decline in tourists from Western markets

Similarly, Ms. Pham Thi Thanh, Director of TTC Can Tho Hotel , shared that the geopolitical situation and foreign policies of major countries always have a direct impact on the global tourism industry, including Vietnam. Recently, after the political situation of some partner countries changed, some tougher policies on immigration, trade and international relations have begun to take shape again. This poses challenges for the Vietnamese tourism industry, especially in attracting tourists from markets with new policy changes such as the United States and allied countries.

The female director said that some travel companies have reported a decline in the number of registered visitors from Western markets due to risk aversion, increased travel costs, and changes in visa procedures. Meanwhile, major tourist markets such as China and South Korea are also facing strong competition from regional destinations such as Thailand, Singapore, and the Philippines, which are launching many attractive policies to gain market share.

From the above issues, Ms. Pham Thi Thanh recommends solutions and new, more appropriate strategic directions to help Vietnam's tourism industry adapt to changes in international policies, especially from major countries. At the same time, it is necessary to continue promoting foreign policies and trade and tourism promotion to ensure the competitive position of Vietnam's tourism in the international market in the coming time.

Discussing and answering voters' concerns and recommendations, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that immediately after the US President announced the new tariff policy, together with the leaders of the Party, State and Government, the Prime Minister responded promptly, organized many meetings, and met and contacted the US side to promote fair and sustainable trade relations with the US.

In particular, research has policies to support businesses affected by US tax policies.

Regarding gold market management, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that the Government is considering amending Decree No. 24/2012/ND-CP on gold trading management, as it is no longer suitable for practice.

The Prime Minister also said that he has assigned the Ministry of Public Security to investigate and handle acts of smuggling, speculation, hoarding, price gouging, tax evasion, etc. "The police have initiated a case at Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC); in the near future, they will continue to handle a number of other organizations. Those who do the right thing and do well will be supported, those who do wrong and violate the law must be strictly punished," the Prime Minister emphasized.
