Female player Tran Thi Thuy Trang has just added to her massive collection of titles with a gold medal at the 2024 Southeast Asian Women's Futsal Championship. She became the only Vietnamese football player to win the regional championship in futsal twice and win 3 SEA Games gold medals in grass field events.
This is not the first time Thuy Trang has won a championship in futsal. In 2013, this player from Quang Nam participated in the 2013 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship - then called the pre-SEA Games tournament.
The Vietnamese team won the championship of that tournament. At the 27th SEA Games held in the same year, Thuy Trang and the Vietnamese women's futsal team won the silver medal.
Tran Thi Thuy Trang owns a unique collection of titles.
After that, the midfielder born in 1988 gradually affirmed her name on the field and temporarily said goodbye to the futsal arena. She won 3 SEA Games gold medals, 8 national championships and participated in the World Cup with the Vietnamese women's team (11-a-side football).
On an individual level, Thuy Trang won the title of best player of the national championship in both grass and indoor events.
After returning from the 2023 World Cup, Thuy Trang said goodbye to the Vietnamese team. She recently returned to futsal and immediately joined the team to participate in the new Southeast Asian tournament. Thuy Trang and her teammates won the indoor championship for the second time.
However, Thuy Trang is not the first Vietnamese player to win the Southeast Asian championship in both futsal and soccer.
In 2006, the Vietnamese women's team won the Southeast Asian championship for the first time with the name Vu Thi Huyen Linh (born in 1987). In 2013, this player played for the women's futsal team, was a teammate of Thuy Trang, won the gold medal at the Southeast Asian tournament - pre-SEA Games 27.
