Meritorious Artist Nguyet Hang: Grandmother at 51 years old, does not want her 4 children to follow her career

Actress Nguyet Hang is not sad that her children do not follow in their parents' footsteps. Her eldest daughter, although she passed the entrance exam to the University of Theatre and Cinema, dropped out after one year of studying.

Nguyet Hang - the boss role in the movie "Doc Dao" about to air on VTV.

My children are used to their parents being away from home often while they are filming.

- For an actor who has been in the profession for 30 years, what makes Nguyet Hang Overcoming all difficulties, driving hundreds of kilometers to the mountainous scene just to film a scene of the criminal police movie "The Only Way" and then returning to Hanoi?

As veteran actors, we understand how important an actor is in a scene because it is not only a personal matter but also affects the entire crew. Due to the weather, the scene was not completed, so I had to go back and forth. The heart of the profession and professional ethics help us overcome everything to complete the scene, because the film must be completed after finishing our part. If you love and sacrifice for your profession, work honestly, the acting profession will definitely bring you many other things, at that time the hardship is nothing.

- For those who have been in the profession for many years like you, how can you put aside your ego and listen to the instructions of young directors?

I understand how the director works and only when the film is broadcast do I know what story they are telling and how. The director arranges this character line to match the other character, in accordance with the psychology of the story and the surrounding characters. So I can understand the character in this way but I am not sure if I know the deep meaning the director wants to say.

I am suited to heavy, introverted roles, so I often bring my psychology and instincts to the character. But sometimes my psychology is not suitable, so the director has to help me know whether I have acted well or not. Therefore, I always respect the director.

- What is so attractive about the boss character in "The Unique Path" that makes Nguyet Hang, even though she is not the main character, still overcome all difficulties to follow her to the end?

The role of Mrs. Moc has a heavy psychology but is not simply a normal wife and mother. The character of the boss's wife has a different psychological development from normal roles with many mysteries and hidden corners, so even though the role is short, I really like it.

2024 is a year of many milestones for Nguyet Hang when she was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist and became a grandmother.

- You are constantly filming, your job requires you to be away from home often while your youngest daughter is still very young. How do you arrange your work to have time to take care of your child?

Up until now, the children have been used to their parents often being away from home to film. The disadvantaged children have become accustomed to being independent and adapting to not seeing their parents at home when they wake up. We love our children very much, and the youngest child is the one we love the most because he was born when his parents were old. My husband and I have to arrange our work to spend time with our children. But fortunately, I have a maid at home and my second daughter is a freelancer, so we can arrange to help our parents.

Do not want and do not force children to follow their parents' career

- Does any of your children have an inclination and want to pursue an acting career?

No friends, the couple does not want and does not force their children because this job is too hard. Parents work all their lives but still do not have the conditions to provide their children with a happy life. From a young age, we let the children follow the film industry so that they know how hard this job is and can choose their own path.

The eldest sister, after finishing her first year of studying Business Administration, hid from her parents that she wanted to take the entrance exam to the University of Theatre and Cinema. But she didn't take the acting exam because she knew this profession was hard and she didn't think she was very good-looking. When she passed the directing exam, she told her parents, but only for one semester.

Nguyet Hang and Anh Tuan just celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary.

Mr. Tuan cooks more than me and is always the one "ordering".

- Aren't you sad because your children don't follow their parents' career?

I am not sad because it is the future of my children, they have to live according to their own interests and desires. The acting profession is very hard, without good support, they cannot devote themselves with peace of mind. Our second daughter used to study traditional music but after a while she gave up and pursued a career in beauty. Now wherever she goes, she takes care of her mother from makeup to hair.

- Having worked for decades, have you and Mr. Tuan ever felt tired?

I am passionate about acting, Mr. Tuan also knows that. For many years I have participated in dubbing for films because where can I get money to act in the theater? Although dubbing has a moderate income, it also helps me a lot in life. Tuoi Tre Theater had a brilliant time with the series Laughing life and later on television. Although the job did not make me rich, it was enough to cover all expenses. In addition, I also tutored.

Thanks to many beloved roles, I was invited to participate in projects. Only Mr. Tuan did the business. He cooperated with Vinh Xuong and before he succeeded with crab noodle soup, 5 stores had "died" and were in debt. When Mr. Tuan's business took off, his income was temporarily stable and helped me a lot.

However, I did not rely on my husband but still worked to maintain my life. When I was at the theater, Tuan knew that I loved my job and could not quit, so he took the initiative to quit a few times to switch to business because he did not want me to worry about financial matters. If he assigned me to do business, I would not be able to do it because I had enough time to do art and take care of the children.

So, Mr. Tuan withdrew from the theater to make films, support his wife and take care of his family.

- No one would think Nguyet Hang is a grandmother, because she always looks young...

There are always children around me. At the beginning of the year, I went to Germany for 2 months to support my daughter when she gave birth to her first child. I am a professional mother and do not mind taking care of children. I even have hyperactivity because after work, I should rest when I come home but I cannot sit still.

Whenever I have nothing to do at home, I feel sick. So whenever I have free time, Tuan and I plan picnics and take the kids across Vietnam. We always keep the habit of doing whatever we want all day, if we are in Hanoi, we will meet at noon to eat something, drink coffee and then do our own work. And at the end of the day, we must have a meal at home, unless we are filming far away.

- Who usually cooks at home?

My family has a maid who cooks, but Mr. Tuan is still willing to rush to the market to buy food and cook at home because he knows I'm too tired after work. He likes delicious food so he cooks himself and almost always orders it (laughs).

- 2024 seems to be a year of complete success in Nguyet Hang's life and career when she received the title of Meritorious Artist, became a grandmother and had continuous film projects?

I think that is the result of all the efforts over the years, it just happened at the same time. When leading the theater, Mr. Chi Trung always had the idea that "only with reality can we uphold the religion" so he wanted to take the troupe to perform as much as possible. Therefore, in all the competitions where the theater members could win medals, he was not very important. And we just kept working according to that cycle.

I also feel a little disadvantaged because my peers have all become famous, but I am left behind. I am not sad because my contributions are recognized by the audience, that is much more valuable. Of course, titles are important to artists because they mark success. If you have them, it is even better, but if you don't, life is still the same, you can still do your job and be loved by the public. That is more important.

- Do you have a goal of becoming a People's Artist?

For me, being a Meritorious Artist is enough. Of course, a People's Artist must have opportunities, compete, and win awards, but I don't think it's that important.
