(QNO) - On April 18, the Biodiversity Conservation Component (under the Sustainable Forest Management and Biodiversity Conservation Project) coordinated with the People's Committee of Nong Son district to organize a conference to establish a multi-sectoral management council in the cooperation mechanism for forest management and protection of the Elephant Species and Habitat Conservation Area in Nong Son district.

The multi-sectoral management council has 10 members, under the People's Committee of Nong Son district, with the task of advising the Chairman of the People's Committee of Nong Son district; advising and supporting the Management Board of the Elephant Species and Habitat Conservation Area to effectively carry out forest management, protection and biodiversity conservation activities by organizing dialogue forums between the buffer zone community of the conservation area and relevant parties.

The conference approved the organizational structure, functions and tasks of the council; principles of operation of the dialogue forum; mechanisms for monitoring, receiving and responding to information from the forum. The results of the council's activities are to improve the relationship between the buffer zone community and the Elephant Species and Habitat Conservation Area Management Board, associated with the maintenance and development of the elephant population in the conservation area.
