Green-skinned grapefruit is the main crop of the mountainous district of Khanh Vinh, helping thousands of farming households escape poverty. Grapefruit gardens are being developed by farmers into community tourism spots. Khanh Vinh is located at the intersection of two famous tourist cities, Nha Trang and Da Lat, so the agricultural model combined with tourism services here is very favorable.
Mr. Doan Van Huong, Director of Hieu Linh Agricultural Production and Purchasing Cooperative, Khanh Thanh Commune, Khanh Vinh District, said that with an area of 30 hectares of green-skinned grapefruit, there are ponds, lakes, streams, and waterfalls near the gardens, so it is very convenient to develop tourism.
"Our cooperative has up to 90% of ethnic minorities, such as the Tay ethnic group from the North, and the Raglay ethnic group in the locality. Opening this community tourism model, mainly promotes local products and culture, of the people in this region. Tourism is developed, the value of products is increased, creating more jobs for the people, the income of the cooperative will also be higher than the current market", Mr. Huong said.
The two mountainous districts of Khanh Son and Khanh Vinh in Khanh Hoa province have a diverse system of rivers and forests, which is a great potential for developing livestock, forestry, processing industry, and eco-tourism. The folk culture of nearly 30 ethnic minorities here is also very diverse. Traffic projects such as highways and inter-regional roads are under construction, creating favorable conditions for economic and tourism development. These two mountainous districts are attracting businesses to invest in developing community tourism and tourism combined with agriculture at 20 locations. These locations are all associated with specialized fruit growing areas such as durian, jackfruit, green-skinned grapefruit... especially associated with natural landscapes such as streams, waterfalls, and forests.
Mr. Van Ngoc Huong, Chairman of Khanh Vinh District People's Committee said: "Khanh Vinh can learn many things about tourism conditions and socio-economic development from other localities. Khanh Vinh started later, so we can learn many lessons about management. That is, land and tourism resources must be included in the planning or lessons about attracting investment. When tourism activities take place, how to manage eco-tourism well in conjunction with the task of socio-economic development. We have to learn more, it will be more convenient".
Currently, agricultural model products associated with tourism in Khanh Hoa province are increasingly diverse and rich, such as: growing mango in Cam Lam district, growing durian in Khanh Son district, raising goats in Khanh Vinh district, raising seafood at sea... attracting many domestic and foreign tourists to visit.
Mr. Le Minh Linh, Deputy Director of the National Agricultural Extension Center, said that agriculture combined with tourism has helped farmers switch from traditional production to production combined with entertainment and experience, bringing high efficiency to both the agricultural and tourism sectors. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will focus on a number of solutions and propose appropriate policies for the tourism sector.
According to Mr. Le Minh Linh, the National Agricultural Extension Center builds livestock models for farmers to learn, trains human resources, guides farmers, businesses, and cooperatives on how to do tourism, how to raise livestock, and sell products to tourists.
"The National Agricultural Extension Center annually builds models of livestock and crop farming associated with eco-tourism, creating connections, helping farmers increase their income and develop sustainably. In the near future, we will build more models of livestock farming combined with tourism, such as with cows, tourists can visit, milk cows, and experience riding buffaloes and cows," Mr. Linh added.
