On a total area of over 2 hectares, Mr. Cuong's family used to mainly grow rice and some short-term crops. Realizing that although this method basically meets the family's year-round food needs, it is very difficult to become rich.
After studying some models in other areas with similar conditions, Mr. Cuong decided to switch to a freshwater fish farming model combined with raising local chickens and pigs. Taking advantage of the terrain located next to a stream, with abundant water sources all year round, Mr. Cuong planned to dig 3 large fish ponds, raising traditional fish such as: grass carp, tilapia, common carp, bighead carp, catfish...
In areas far from the stream, he built barns to raise chickens and pigs, and at the same time planted some plants to feed the animals.
Thanks to active research and learning through books, the internet, participating in training courses and typical models in other regions, after nearly 4 years, Mr. Cuong has gradually formed a multi-animal economic model that has developed smoothly. Feed for fish, chickens and pigs is mainly made from agricultural by-products such as potato pulp, cassava, beans, banana stems and leaves, grass... to both limit costs and ensure good animal growth.
Chickens and pigs are carefully selected from native breeds, have good natural resistance, are less susceptible to diseases, and are raised in a combination of caged and free-range farming, meeting the supply of chickens, pigs for meat and breeding. The output of the model is guaranteed, customers mainly contact to order at home. The chicken flock has now grown to over 500, and fish and chicken are sold year-round. The total herd of sows, pigs for meat and breeding pigs is over 30.
In addition, grasping the current customer needs of wanting to go to places far from residential areas, with fresh air to rest and experience, Mr. Cuong has invested in building 4 floating houses on the surface of the fish pond to serve the needs of fishing and culinary experiences. With an open space, near streams, many ponds and especially all the ingredients for culinary services are available in the garden, such as: fish, chicken, local pigs, clean vegetables... so it gradually attracts more and more visitors to come here to visit and experience.
Although it is still in its early stages, Mr. Cuong's family's livestock and service model has brought positive results, both increasing the family's income and creating conditions for local workers in each season. After deducting expenses, each year his family earns over 150 million VND from the model.
“I find this method much more effective than wet rice farming. In the future, my family will continue to expand and encourage my children to do the same. We will learn while doing and use the initial results to continue investing to limit borrowing.
Research more new plants and animals combined with other services, linking with local service points to increase the number of customers, ensuring both agricultural and service development.
Currently, we are preparing to dig another fish pond, building a system of pig and chicken farms; building a kitchen system to serve food for visitors to visit and experience," Mr. Cuong shared.
