The Ministry of Education and Training said that the regulations on secondary and high school admissions will be issued before December 31, 2024. However, as of December 29 - which is close to the G hour, many parents and grade 9 students are still in a state of anxiety and anticipation. The common wish of candidates is to know the exam plan soon so that they have time to prepare for the public grade 10 entrance exam, which is considered to be very stressful.
Worried that the third exam will be in the combined exam
Sharing her concerns as well as her classmates, Tran Thu Huong, a 9th grade student at Nguyen Cong Tru Secondary School (Ba Dinh District, Hanoi) said that she felt pressured when there was a possibility that the third exam subject would be a combination test.
"According to the current curriculum, we have two integrated subjects: Natural Sciences (including 3 subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology) and Social Sciences (History, Geography). If Hanoi chooses a combined exam, students will have to take 4 or 5 subjects while there is not much time to review and get used to it, and the pressure of competition to enter public grade 10 is too great," Thu Huong said.
Principal of Nam Phuong Tien B Secondary School (Chuong My District, Hanoi) Pham Thu Ha said that many parents and students want the third subject to be a foreign language like last year. However, the school is also ready with a plan if the city chooses the third subject in the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year to be a combined test, but hopes to announce it soon so that students can focus more on the subjects.
According to the general plan, based on the Junior High School and High School Admission Regulations issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, the Departments of Education and Training of provinces and cities will develop admission plans, submit them to the provincial People's Committee for approval, and then publicly announce them. Waiting for many changes in the 10th grade entrance exam is currently putting a lot of pressure on parents and 9th grade students in Hanoi as well as many other localities.
Proposed third exam subject is Foreign Language
According to the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, choosing Foreign Language as the third subject in the 10th grade entrance exam helps to maintain psychological stability, in line with the career orientation goals of students. It is known that the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has expressed this opinion in contributing some contents of the proposed amendments and supplements to the Regulations on Secondary School Admissions and High School Admissions of the Ministry of Education and Training for the second time. The Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City believes that the decision to include the third subject in the 10th grade exam must ensure that it does not affect the psychology, review process and subject selection at the high school level of students.
Based on the 2018 General Education Program, high school has 6 compulsory subjects, including: Literature, Mathematics, Foreign Language, Physical Education, National Defense - Security Education, History. Of which, Foreign Language is compulsory for students to study throughout grade 3 to grade 12.
The remaining subjects, including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, Technology and Information Technology, when entering high school, students may not choose to study during the 3 years of study (due to their career orientation). Therefore, randomly selecting subjects other than Math and Literature leads to students having to take exams in subjects that are not in their orientation, thereby causing stress before the exam for them.
"On that basis, choosing Foreign Language as the third subject ensures psychological stability, consistent with the career orientation goals of all students due to the consistent characteristics of the 2018 General Education Program.
At the same time, the choice of Foreign Language subject meets the goals set by the Politburo, gradually making English the second language in schools and guiding learners to become global citizens in the future," emphasized a representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training.
According to recent information from the Ministry of Education and Training, the Regulations on Secondary and High School Admissions will be issued before December 31, 2024, after synthesizing and carefully analyzing comments on the exam plan to ensure the most suitable for students.
The entrance exam for grade 10 in 2025 is expected to be as follows:
