Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên26/01/2024

According to the Civil Aviation Authority, as of January 25, flights from Ho Chi Minh City have a very high booking rate, spread evenly over the days from February 2 to February 9 and gradually decreasing from the days after Lunar New Year 2024.

Tan Son Nhat Airport has welcomed many groups of tourists returning home early.

These include routes such as Ho Chi Minh City - Buon Ma Thuot (booking rate ranges from 82% - 100%), Ho Chi Minh City - Da Nang (from 79% - 95%), Ho Chi Minh City - Hai Phong (from 87% - 93%), Ho Chi Minh City - Hue (from 86% - 98%), Ho Chi Minh City - Pleiku (from 84% - 98%), Ho Chi Minh City - Tuy Hoa (from 80% - 83%), Ho Chi Minh City - Thanh Hoa (from 83% - 92%), Ho Chi Minh City - Quy Nhon (from 82% - 100%), Ho Chi Minh City - Chu Lai (from 80% - 97%), Ho Chi Minh City - Quang Binh (from 88% - 106%), Ho Chi Minh City - Vinh (from 86% - 94%).

On the return journey from local airports to Ho Chi Minh City, many routes are having high booking rates. Some routes have been sold out on some peak days after Lunar New Year (from February 11 to February 19, or January 4 to January 10). For example, the route from Buon Ma Thuot to Ho Chi Minh City has reached 75% - 100% of ticket sales; the route from Ca Mau to Ho Chi Minh City (from 77% - 100%), Hai Phong to Ho Chi Minh City (from 83% - 94%), from Hue to Ho Chi Minh City has also sold up to 96%...

Reasons why plane tickets are expensive

The Ho Chi Minh City - Hanoi route was not "hot" last week, but now it has started to heat up. The booking rate in the period from 1 - 9.2 (ie 22 - 30 December) is still only at an average level, from 56% - 82%. Of which, the days of 3.2, 4.2 and 7.2 have reached over 80%. In the opposite direction in this period, the rate only reaches from over 40% to over 60%. In the period from 13.2 - 18.2 (ie 4 - 9 January), the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route has a high rate. Except for February 13, which was only filled over 51%, the remaining days were "full" with over 80% of seats. In particular, on 2 days 17 - 18.2, this rate reached 93% - 94%.

Compared to last week's report, aviation authorities said Vietnamese airlines continued to add flights from Ho Chi Minh City to local airports and vice versa on routes with high booking rates, with 324 additional flights, equivalent to nearly 61,000 seats.

Recently, Vietnam Airlines has added 4 wet-leased Airbus A320 aircraft, adding nearly 1,000 flights during the Tet peak season. The additional aircraft have a capacity of 180 passengers, served by Vietnam Airlines flight attendants and foreign flight attendants according to the airline's service standards, excluding the entertainment system. Thus, up to now, Vietnam Airlines Group (including Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines and VASCO) is expected to provide a total of 2.86 million seats during the Tet peak season across its domestic and international flight network.

Vietjet has also just announced an increase of nearly 750 flights, equivalent to 154,800 seats, to serve the peak Tet holiday. The additional flights mainly serve the needs of returning home for Tet and traveling, such as from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi, Thanh Hoa, Hai Phong, Chu Lai, Tuy Hoa, Da Nang, Hue, Quy Nhon.

According to the survey, the airfares for the increased number of night flights are not cheaper than those for daytime flights. Prices are still sky-high. For example, round-trip tickets of Vietravel Airlines from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi departing on February 6 and returning on February 17 cost from over 6.5 to over 7.1 million VND depending on the flight. On the same route and at the same time, Vietjet tickets cost nearly 7 million VND/round trip. Bamboo Airways has just added more than 10 flights, with a round-trip flight costing over 7.5 million VND. The "big brother" Vietnam Airlines has only a few flights with economy class tickets costing over 7.3 million VND/round trip. Most of the airline's flights from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City on February 17 only have business class tickets costing nearly 10 million VND/round trip.
