From early morning, Mr. Vo Van Kim's family in Truong Tho village was present at the garden to pick apples to sell to traders. Mr. Kim shared: My family has 3 sao of apples that are currently entering the peak harvest. This year's Tet apple crop, thanks to good care and favorable weather conditions, has produced many fruits, with an average of 2.5-3 quintals picked each week, and traders buy them at the garden for 10,000 VND/kg. It is expected that from now until near Tet, the family will finish harvesting, then cut branches and renovate the garden to prepare for the next crop. Sharing the joy, Ms. Pham Thi Be said: I cultivate 1.2 sao of apples, and in the past few days, my family has hired 2 more workers to pick them to deliver them to customers on time. Compared to a few months ago, apples cost only 4,000-5,000 VND/kg, but now they have increased to 8,000-10,000 VND/kg. If this price continues until near Tet, after deducting costs, farmers will have a profit of over 20 million VND/sao.
Farmers in Truong Tho village harvest apples for Tet.
Currently, apple consumption is quite favorable, people do not have to worry about finding an outlet. Mr. Dao Van Tuan, an apple buyer in Phuoc My ward (Phan Rang - Thap Cham city), said: With special climate and soil conditions, Phuoc Hau apples have large, crispy, sweet fruits that are highly appreciated by consumers for their quality. Lunar New Year 2024 is approaching, the consumption market is strong, so I go to the garden to buy apples. On average, each day, the distribution facility distributes to the southern provinces from 2-2.5 tons of apples and a small amount is sold within the province.
Mr. Truong Van Tin, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Phuoc Hau Commune, said: The whole commune produces 170 hectares of apples, of which about 70% of the area is harvested during Tet. This year, thanks to favorable weather conditions and proactive care by local people, the apple yield is quite good, from 3-3.5 tons/sao; although the selling price has decreased compared to previous years, most apple growers still make a profit. In addition to selling fresh apples, some households also make apple jam to sell for Tet, helping to create jobs for many local workers, thereby having more income and welcoming a prosperous Tet.
