Farmers in the largest vegetable "barn" of Quan Ba district grow dozens of hectares of purple fruit trees, which are purchased by large supermarkets.

After being organized by agricultural supply companies in Hanoi to visit agricultural growing areas in the Northern and Central regions, in October 2023, Mr. Ngu Duc Thang's family, Tan Tien village (Quyet Tien commune, Quan Ba district, Ha Giang ) decided to convert nearly 5,000 square meters of rice area to grow more than 5,000 round-fruited eggplant plants.

After two months of planting, Mr. Thang's round eggplant crop is ready for harvest. The harvesting period lasts for six consecutive months, with 15 days of harvesting each month. Currently, Mr. Thang harvests an average of nearly 500 kg of round eggplant per day.

Up to now, for round eggplant alone, Quyet Tien commune has mobilized people to convert 4 hectares of land from rice cultivation to this crop. Accordingly, a group has been formed in the commune with about 20 households growing round eggplant, associated with agricultural product consumption with supermarkets and wholesale markets in Hanoi market.

Through planting, caring, harvesting, evaluating local productivity and sharing the reality of the people, it shows that round eggplant is suitable for the soil of Quyet Tien commune; fruit size from 5-6 fruits will reach 1 kg; stable selling price on average from 5,000 - 7,000 VND/kg; economic efficiency is 4-5 times higher than growing rice.

Through discussions with the Party Committee and the authorities, it is known that the entire Quyet Tien commune has converted over 200 hectares of ineffective crop growing area to growing high-yield vegetables and colors associated with product consumption linkages; including the area of round-fruited eggplant. Through productivity assessment, round-fruited eggplant yields 90 tons/ha.

Although it is a newly introduced crop and part of a product consumption linkage program, the effectiveness of round-fruited eggplant in Quyet Tien commune has opened up promising prospects for productivity and income for the people.

The cultivation of round-fruited eggplant, along with other agricultural crops such as cucumbers and tomatoes, linked to product consumption agreements, will continue to affirm the correct and visionary direction in agricultural production in Quan Ba district in general and Quyet Tien commune in particular.
