This year, for the spring crop season, Quynh Nhai district plans to plant over 870 hectares of rice. To ensure a sufficient water supply for irrigation, the district has directed communes to promote and mobilize people to participate in irrigation work since the beginning of the year; and instructed specialized departments to coordinate with communes to maintain and repair irrigation systems in the area, ensuring adequate water supply for rice fields and daily life.
These early spring days, in the fields of Ca village, Chieng Khoang commune, farmers are busy plowing, preparing the land, and tending to the seedlings; taking advantage of the warm, sunny weather to plant the rice seedlings in time for the season. Mr. Ca Van Ngoc - Ban Ca, Chieng Khoang commune, Quynh Nhai district, Son La province: "After the Tet holiday, taking advantage of the warm weather, we went down to the fields to prepare the land, plow, and get ready for planting. Our family cultivates about 1,000 square meters of rice land, mainly sticky rice varieties 87 and 97. We expect to finish transplanting the rice this February."
Chieng Khoang is the agricultural commune with the largest total food production in Quynh Nhai district. The district has directed relevant agencies to guide and encourage farmers to gradually replace local varieties with high-yield, high-quality varieties. Irrigation canal systems have also been concreted, ensuring sufficient water for over 221 hectares of rice paddies throughout the commune. For this year's spring crop, the commune plans to plant over 145 hectares of rice. To date, approximately 84 hectares have been planted, with the goal of completing the planting by early March 2025.
Mr. Quang Van Nhat, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Chieng Khoang commune, Quynh Nhai district, Son La province, said: "After the Tet holiday, the People's Committee of the commune directed the people to harvest vegetables and prepare the land for the 2025 spring rice crop. This is the main crop for the people, so they are very enthusiastic about participating in production. The atmosphere at the beginning of spring is very exciting and joyful. After plowing and planting, the People's Committee of the commune directed the people to clear the canals to ensure irrigation water for the fields…"
The atmosphere of hard work among farmers in Chiềng Khoang commune and other communes in Quỳnh Nhai district during the early days of the new year is very lively, with the hope that this year's rice harvest will be bountiful, bringing greater prosperity and well-being to the people's lives.
