In Can Loc rice granary, these days, the fields are like construction sites. Hundreds of combine harvesters are constantly working to keep up with the harvest schedule. Taking advantage of favorable weather, farmers are busy going to the fields day and night, following the machines to bring rice home or to the collection points to sell to traders.
Ms. Tran Thi Tam (Doan Ket village, Thien Loc commune, Can Loc) excitedly said: “This year, my family planted nearly 2 hectares of rice, mainly high-quality varieties, so the yield was high, 4 quintals/sao. We followed the village's plan to quickly harvest the area. This season, Thien Loc commune built large fields, so the harvest time was also much shorter than before. The hot weather is a condition for the rice fields to ripen evenly and beautifully, and helps farmers harvest and dry the rice conveniently."
The joy of a good harvest is evident on the faces of farmers in Thien Loc commune, Can Loc district.
When farmers are busy harvesting, it is also the hardest time for combine harvesters and workers. Mr. Tran Van Huan - combine harvester owner in Khanh Vinh Yen commune (Can Loc) said: "The hot weather makes it even harder for us, so we have to actively work overtime to harvest at night to avoid the heat and speed up the progress."
It is known that Can Loc district is the leading locality in the province in terms of harvesting progress. The district has arranged more than 150 combine harvesters to each village; organizing simultaneous harvesting in a rolling manner, harvesting each field neatly, each village neatly.
Mr. Phan Cao Ky - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Can Loc district said: "The district's spring rice yield this year is expected to reach nearly 62 quintals/ha, about 1 quintal/ha higher than the 2022 spring crop. We strive to complete the 2023 spring rice harvest in the next 3-5 days and will finish sowing the summer-autumn crop before June 10."
According to the assessment of professional agencies, the spring rice yield of Ha Tinh this year is estimated at 58.96 quintals/ha (the highest ever in Ha Tinh), with an estimated output of 350,117 tons.
On the model field of more than 70 hectares in Dong Doai village (Nam Phuc Thang commune, Cam Xuyen district), the joy of a successful crop in terms of productivity is present on every farmer's face.
Ms. Pham Thi Doan (Dong Doai village, Nam Phuc Thang commune) shared: “This is the first time I have harvested in a large, concentrated model field without small plots. Nearly 7 sao of rice fields were moved to one place, saving a lot of harvesting time, in just nearly 1 session the harvester finished. The season is urgent, so as soon as we harvest spring rice, we have to clean the fields, prepare seeds, materials, and rent machinery for summer-autumn production."

The whole commune has harvested more than 50% of the area and is expected to close the crop before May 23. The fields that have been converted and accumulated all have high yields, produce a uniform variety, and increase the rate of mechanization in all stages, so the people are very excited".

The harvest atmosphere is increasingly urgent in all areas of the province. From Ky Anh, Thach Ha, Can Loc, Duc Tho districts to Huong Son, Vu Quang, Huong Khe, etc., the progress has been accelerated thanks to the focus on mechanization. Localities have also stepped up propaganda, inspection and strict handling of protectionism, competition for land, and arbitrary price increases, ensuring that people can harvest quickly and smoothly.
To date, the whole province has harvested nearly 7,000 hectares of spring rice, reaching nearly 11% of the area. Districts with large harvested areas include: Can Loc (3,200 hectares), Duc Tho (1,000 hectares), Cam Xuyen (900 hectares), Nghi Xuan (650 hectares)... The remaining localities have also begun to "speed up", striving to concentrate highly from May 20 to 27.
