DNVN - As a member of Vietnam's innovation and startup ecosystem, the Vietnam-Korea Industrial Technology Incubator ( Can Tho City) has supported technology transfer, process improvement, and new product development for more than 30 small and medium-sized enterprises in the Mekong Delta region.

The Vietnam-Korea Industrial Technology Incubator (hereinafter referred to as the Incubator) is a non-refundable ODA project from the Government of South Korea with a total investment of US$21.13 million. The Incubator covers approximately 4.5 hectares and is located in the Tra Noc 2 Industrial Park, Phuoc Thoi Ward, O Mon District, Can Tho City.

According to Tran Ha Dong Quan, Deputy Director of the Vietnam-Korea Industrial Technology Incubator, by 2023, the country had more than 80 incubation facilities operating as centers, incubators, or companies established by the state or private sector. These facilities aim to provide the necessary services and infrastructure to support startups from the idea generation and product development stages to the establishment and growth of businesses.

The Vietnam-Korea Industrial Technology Incubator, a member of Vietnam's innovation and startup ecosystem, is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for research, from laboratories to experimental production workshops and fabrication workshops.

From its inception, the incubator has received active support and collaboration from leading experts and scientists from universities and colleges in the region. This has enabled the unit to operate increasingly effectively, becoming a bridge attracting businesses from the Mekong Delta provinces to participate in research and development, improving products to meet the increasingly stringent requirements of domestic and international markets.

Mr. Tran Ha Dong Quan also stated that the incubator creates three types of added value: supporting startup businesses and their development; developing commercially viable scientific research results; and serving as a "cradle" for nurturing science and technology businesses.

A pillar of support and partnership for businesses.

The majority of Vietnamese businesses are small, medium, or micro-sized enterprises, often facing difficulties in innovating production technology and business services. Leveraging its strengths and aiming to actively support businesses, the incubator has focused on scientific research and technological improvements in the fields of agricultural product processing, seafood processing, and mechanical engineering over the years. In particular, the incubator's research and development work and product quality improvement efforts have been highly appreciated by organizations and businesses in the Mekong Delta.

The incubator has supported more than 30 small and micro-enterprises in technology transfer, research and improvement of technological processes, and development of new products from traditional local materials. This has contributed to overcoming and resolving difficulties faced by businesses in production techniques, product improvement, and increasing the shelf life and quality of products.

This success is thanks to the incubator's dedicated and creative research team, possessing specialized skills and devoting significant time to developing products with high scientific and technological content, enhancing the value of raw materials and finished products. Among these, two products were included in the Golden Book of Vietnamese Innovation, two products won first prize, and four products received honorable mentions at science and technology innovation competitions in Can Tho.

The incubator also spearheaded scientific and technological tasks such as conducting two city-level scientific research projects; participating in university-level research projects with lecturers at Can Tho University; and supporting over 5,000 students from universities and colleges in carrying out their graduation projects and scientific research topics at the incubator.

With over 80 tractors from the non-refundable ODA aid of the Korean Government in the project "Supporting agricultural mechanization in Can Tho City, Vietnam," the nursery has selected and transferred agricultural machinery to serve the mechanization of more than 20 cooperatives in Co Do, Thoi Lai, and Vinh Thanh districts. The nursery is also planning to coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Can Tho City and relevant units to implement the "Project for 1 million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice" in the city.

Assessing the role of incubators over the past period, at the workshop "Technological Orientation for Climate Change Adaptation in the Mekong Delta" on October 26th, experts and scientists all affirmed that the incubators have effectively fulfilled their tasks and functions. Through this, they have contributed to encouraging businesses to innovate technology, supporting businesses in technology transfer, selecting advanced technologies both domestically and internationally, and improving the innovation index of the locality and the region.

“The incubator not only supports and promotes the development of newly established businesses but also carries an important mission for the economic and social development of the region. The incubator creates a good environment to nurture and realize creative ideas and passions, while always aiming for and committing to accompanying the common development of the business community, bringing high-value products that meet market and export demands,” said Mr. Tran Ha Dong Quan.
