(CLO) A gunman was killed and three Jordanian police officers were injured after a "terrorist attack" near the Israeli Embassy in the capital Amman on the morning of November 24.
A gunman opened fire on a police patrol in the wealthy Rabiah neighborhood of the Jordanian capital. The gunman, armed with an automatic weapon, was pursued for at least an hour before being cornered and killed just before dawn. The incident is still under investigation.

Jordan's Communications Minister Mohamed Momani said the shooting was a "terrorist attack" against public security forces in the country. "Undermining national security and attacking security forces will be severely punished," he said, adding that the gunman had a criminal record for drug trafficking.
Jordanian police cordoned off a heavily guarded area near the embassy after hearing gunfire. Two witnesses said police and ambulances rushed to the Rabiah district, where the embassy is located.
The area is a hotbed of regular anti-Israel protests. Jordan has also been the site of some of the largest peace protests in the Middle East over the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza. Many of Jordan's 12 million citizens are of Palestinian origin.
The 1994 peace treaty between Jordan and Israel was unpopular with many people, who viewed the normalization of relations as a betrayal of the rights of their fellow Palestinians.
