Can Tho A test tube exploded during a chemistry practice class at Chau Van Liem High School, causing 5 students to suffer minor injuries.
The incident occurred at around 11:15 a.m. on January 23, when teacher Thai Minh Nhat was instructing students of class 11A10 in a chemistry experiment in the laboratory. The test tube exploded, and fragments hit five students, causing them to bleed.
Mr. Nhat, along with medical staff and some teachers, immediately took the students to An Cu Ward Health Station for first aid and wound dressing. The school then transferred the five students to Can Tho General Hospital.
After examining them, the doctor sent three students home at noon because they only suffered superficial scratches. Two others suffered cuts from debris and were stitched and monitored.
By this evening, Dr. Huynh Minh Phu, Deputy Director of the hospital, said that of the two children, one had a head injury and a CT scan showed normal results, so he was discharged. The other case had a bruise in the neck area, which was treated by doctors, and his health was stable and he was ready to go home.
According to the new general education program (2018 program), practice is compulsory in some subjects such as Chemistry, Physics... The national excellent student exam in these subjects also has a practical exam, in addition to theory.
Mr. Tran Minh Xuan, Vice Principal of Chau Van Liem High School, said that tomorrow the school will work with teachers and students to find out and clarify the cause of the incident.
Chau Van Liem High School has a history of more than 100 years, currently has about 1,600 students studying in three grades.
