Handing over a solidarity house to Mr. Phung Van Minh Thang's family.

Housing support to help disadvantaged households find a place to settle down and make a living is a humane endeavor that receives widespread support and participation from the entire political system and compassionate individuals in society. Every year, the People's Committee and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Chau Phu district coordinate to develop plans to mobilize housing support, calling on those with a spirit of mutual assistance to contribute to building solidarity houses. Thanks to the participation of organizations, businesses, and the people, many families have found stable housing, settled down, and are gradually rising out of poverty.

According to Decision 04-QD/BCĐ dated March 12, 2025, of the Steering Committee for the Eradication of Temporary and Dilapidated Houses in An Giang Province, approving the need for the eradication of temporary and dilapidated houses in the province, Chau Phu district was approved for housing support for 167 households, including 123 households needing new construction and 44 households needing repairs. Among these, 49 households are families with meritorious service to the revolution, and 118 are poor or near-poor households. The total funding required is 5.7 billion VND. To date, 126 out of 167 houses have been built in the district, including 109 new houses and 17 repaired houses.

Of the 126 houses that have been newly built or renovated, 54 were built or renovated in 2024, including 4 belonging to families with meritorious service to the revolution; and 50 belonging to poor and near-poor households, funded by social mobilization efforts of the district and matching contributions from the households. For 2025 alone, the entire district will have completed the construction and renovation of 72 out of 113 houses, including: 11 out of 45 houses belonging to people with meritorious service to the revolution have been completed; the remaining households are in the process of demolition and construction, expected to be completed before April 15, 2025. Regarding houses supported for poor and near-poor households, 61 out of 68 houses have been completed, with the remaining 7 houses being built or renovated by the families who refused the support.

For poor and near-poor households, receiving support to build a sturdy house to protect them from rain and sun is a great joy. Recently, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Chau Phu district organized the acceptance and commissioning of a Solidarity House, funded by An Giang Newspaper in 2025, for Mr. Phung Van Minh Thang (Binh Thien hamlet, Binh Thuy commune). The house has a tiled floor, corrugated iron walls, a zinc frame, and a corrugated iron roof, with an area of 61.5m2. The total cost of building the new house was 95 million VND, of which An Giang Newspaper contributed 60 million VND, and the rest was raised by the local community through cash, materials, and labor. Mr. Thang's family is facing difficult circumstances, with many members relying on his work as a hired laborer. Now that they have a solid house, all family members are overjoyed. Mr. Phung Van Minh Thang expressed: "This is a great joy for the whole family. I don't know what to say except thank you to the local authorities and the organization that provided the funding, as well as all the benefactors who helped me get this house."

During the implementation of the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the district, the District People's Committee requested units and localities to implement the program flexibly and creatively, with high spirit and responsibility, promoting local self-reliance and contributions and matching funds from households receiving housing support. At the same time, it emphasized the strength of national solidarity, fostering a spirit of mutual support and compassion, and mobilizing organizations, individuals, and businesses inside and outside the district to provide support. Regular inspections, monitoring, and supervision of the implementation of the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses were conducted to ensure that housing support policies for eligible individuals were implemented correctly, preventing exploitation, profiteering, corruption, and waste.

The Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the district requested the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees of communes and towns to report to the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, coordinate with the People's Committee and relevant departments and organizations of the communes and hamlets to review and survey poor and near-poor households with difficult housing circumstances in their areas, organize consultations to select in order of priority, compile a list, and in coordination with the People's Committee of the commune, hold meetings to review and prepare dossiers to request the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the district to consider and approve financial support for the construction of "Great Solidarity" houses, aiming to help people have a solid house and stable life. In addition, the locality also integrates livelihood support programs and guidance on developing household economies to help people rise out of poverty.

Through the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, the homes built are not only places to live and help people overcome difficulties, but also places to nurture faith and hope for a better life for each disadvantaged family. This demonstrates the spirit of "mutual support and compassion," and the responsibility of the entire political system, businesses, and philanthropists towards the community.
