According to China Central Television (CCTV), on March 13, a suspected gas explosion shook a town in Hebei province, northern China, causing damage to several buildings and causing several casualties.
The explosion occurred at 8 a.m. local time at a ground-floor restaurant in an old residential area in a village in Sanhe County, less than 50 kilometers east of Beijing. The injured were taken to hospital. The health conditions of the victims are not yet known.
The massive explosion sparked a massive fire and sent plumes of smoke and debris flying across a busy road during the morning rush hour. A video posted on social media showed a building that appeared to have collapsed completely and several cars were also set ablaze.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the incident.
