According to China Central Television (CCTV), on March 13, a suspected gas explosion shook a town in Hebei province, northern China, causing damage to several buildings and causing several casualties.
The explosion occurred at 8 a.m. local time at a ground-floor restaurant in an old residential area in a village in Sanhe County, less than 50 kilometers east of Beijing. The injured were taken to hospital. The health conditions of the victims are unknown.
The massive explosion sparked a massive fire and sent plumes of smoke and debris flying across a busy road during the morning rush hour. A video posted on social media showed a building that appeared to have collapsed completely and several cars were also set ablaze.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the incident.
