Mr. Le Huy Thach - Deputy Director in charge of Ninh Thuan General Hospital - said that the hospital has just successfully operated on two young patients with brain tumors and brain hemorrhage. These are young patients with this type of disease that have been successfully treated at this hospital.
Mr. Thach informed that patient Nguyen Quynh D. (14 years old, in Lac Tan 1 village, Phuoc Diem commune, Thuan Nam district) was brought to the hospital by her family with symptoms of headache lasting more than 1 month accompanied by dizziness, a palpable lump in the head.
Through examination, doctors discovered that the patient had a meningioma invading the superior sagittal sinus, suspected of being a meningioma.
Doctors removed all tumor tissue under a microscope, tumor tissue infiltrated the dura mater, underlying brain parenchyma and patched the dura mater, shaped the skull cap with titanium mesh, and sent tumor tissue for surgery.
After surgery, CT scan results showed complete removal of the right occipital brain tumor.
Still Patient Thai Anh T. (16 years old, in Tan Son town, Ninh Son district) was hospitalized in a coma, Glasgow score of 7 (coma assessment scale), and weakness on the right side of the body.
According to the patient's family, T. had frequent headaches that lasted for a while, but because the family was subjective, they did not take him to see a doctor.
Doctors performed a CT scan of the brain and discovered that the patient had an intraventricular hemorrhage, a left parietal hemorrhage that spread to the bilateral ventricular system, and a cerebral falx hemorrhage.
After surgery, the patient had a CT scan of the brain's blood vessels, which determined a fairly deep arteriovenous malformation.
Mr. Thach said that timely surgery for patients with cerebral hemorrhage due to ruptured aneurysms or ruptured vascular malformations at the hospital helps patients receive on-site treatment, minimizing the consequences for the patient (because they are given emergency treatment during the golden period), helping the patient recover quickly and not become a burden to the family.
According to Mr. Thach, these are difficult cases that usually require transfer to higher-level hospitals for treatment. However, thanks to the hospital’s recent investment in equipment and human resources, the treatment has been successful and both patients are gradually recovering.
