Muong Cang commune has 13 villages, more than 6,700 people with three ethnic groups: Thai, H'Mong, Kinh living together. Implementing the policy of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses for poor and near-poor households, and people with revolutionary contributions, the Party Committee and the government of Muong Cang commune have established a steering committee to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for the people.
Through screening, the whole commune has 52 households that are eligible for the program to support the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses with a total cost of more than 2.4 billion VND, including 38 new houses and 14 repaired houses. Mr. Ha Van Mien, in Na Muong village, Muong Cang commune, shared that in the recent housing support review, his family received 60 million VND from the state to build a house.
With the help of relatives and people in the village, plus a loan of 100 million VND from the district social policy bank..., his family is determined to build a new house. According to the schedule, the family will be able to move into the new house in just over a month.
Mr. Lo Van Soi's family is considered to have meritorious services. Although he is over 70 years old, due to the large family and the need to focus on taking care of his grown children, Mr. Soi has not had the means to repair his house. With the support of 30 million VND from the government, his family has repaired their old, dilapidated house. Since receiving the support, everyone in the family has been happy.
Mr. Soi confided: Renovating the house and adding more rooms helps the children and grandchildren live more comfortably. People from every village come to help and support them. The old house has been given a new look for many years, more rooms have been built, and the family members no longer live in cramped conditions.
Secretary of the Muong Cang Commune Party Committee Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy said: To achieve the goal of eliminating temporary houses before the rainy season, the commune government is determined to join with the householders and villagers to lend a hand in the spirit of great solidarity "so that no one has to live in temporary or dilapidated houses". Immediately after the direction plan of the province, district and commune, officials were assigned to coordinate with the Party cell secretaries and village heads to review households living in temporary or dilapidated houses to consider registering to eliminate temporary houses in 2025.
The locality has balanced the support sources from the central, provincial and district levels and promoted the spirit of “The State and the people work together”; propagated and mobilized families to contribute more money to build houses to ensure “3 hard things”. To effectively implement the movement, the commune mobilized union members, association members and people to participate in helping with working days, supporting the transportation of construction materials...
During the implementation process, there were times when the provincial capital allocation was not timely, the commune worked with enterprises to allow people to receive advance payments for materials, which would be repaid after the funds were allocated. In order to ensure the progress and objectives of the program, the commune government regularly urged and assigned members to closely monitor the progress, thereby detecting difficulties and obstacles for timely resolution.
Up to now, the commune has completed the construction of eight new houses and repaired three houses of near-poor households; the remaining houses are being urgently implemented. Each new solid house is being built on the old land, blending with the happy smiles of the people.
The policy of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses has helped ethnic minorities in remote areas such as Muong Cang no longer have to live in temporary houses. This is a noble gesture, a spirit of solidarity, mutual love, and the spread of good values in building great national unity.
