TPO – The North-South expressway has 12 rest stops, of which 3 have full amenities and 9 are temporary rest stops to serve people during the Lunar New Year 2025.
According to the Vietnam Expressway Investment and Development Corporation (VEC), the section from Hanoi to Ha Tinh has 2 fully equipped toll stations and 4 temporary stations with an average distance of 60-70km between stations, while the section from Ho Chi Minh City to Khanh Hoa has 1 fully equipped toll station and 5 temporary stations with an average distance of 60-70km between stations.
Regarding rest stops, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Expressway Department Nguyen Quang Giang said that currently, on the North-South expressway, the Department has signed contracts with investors for 8 rest stops, including the component projects Mai Son-National Highway 45, Nghi Son-Dien Chau, Dien Chau-Bai Vot, Nha Trang-Cam Lam, Cam Lam-Vinh Hao, Vinh Hao-Phan Thiet (2 rest stops) and Phan Thiet-Dau Giay.

To date, construction has begun on two stations: Vinh Hao – Phan Thiet (station at Km205+092) and Phan Thiet – Dau Giay, aiming to complete a portion of essential infrastructure for temporary operation during the Lunar New Year holiday.
Regarding land availability, 3 stations have had their land handed over and are essentially ready for deployment, 2 stations have had their land partially handed over, and the remaining 3 stations have not yet had their land handed over.
Four rest stops were awarded to the Petrolimex Joint Venture, which is currently carrying out internal procedures (design approval, contractor selection, etc.) to proceed with construction. The remaining two rest stops (Vinh Hao – Phan Thiet at km 144+560 and Cam Lam – Vinh Hao) were awarded to the Futabuslines – Thanh Hiep Phat Joint Venture, which is also currently carrying out internal procedures.
According to the Deputy Director of the Vietnam Expressway Department, although contracts with investors were signed in August 2024, the progress of the rest stops is being delayed due to difficulties in land clearance. Therefore, it is expected that investors will only be able to start construction in the first quarter of this year.
The Vietnam Expressway Authority has also requested the investor to shorten the construction schedule and focus on completing areas such as restrooms and parking lots to serve the public from the initial stage. Simultaneously, project management boards are urgently clearing land to ensure the overall progress of the project.
Regarding the toll stations that will be taken over, the Department requires investors to incorporate feedback from the Road Management Area, the Traffic Police Department, and other relevant units to supplement traffic safety systems, enhance environmental sanitation, etc. Of these, 5 out of 6 temporary stations are already in operation, and 1 station is completing the remaining items and is basically on track to be completed and put into use before January 23rd.
Some temporary stations, implemented by project management boards before April 30, 2024, had to cease operation due to not meeting requirements and posing potential traffic safety risks, such as: the temporary station at the entrance to Truong Vinh tunnel, the entrance to Than Vu tunnel (northern area), and the temporary structure at Km199 (left side) of the Vinh Hao – Phan Thiet project in the southern area…
