Golden coordinates in Phu Quoc's journey to become a Class I City

Phu Quoc City (Kien Giang) is entering a breakthrough development phase with many important goals set. This is also the time when the golden coordinates play their role, contributing to helping the pearl island progress quickly on the journey to become a Type I City.

Journey towards Class I Urban Area of ​​Phu Quoc City

In early 2024, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha signed a Decision approving the Master Plan for Phu Quoc City (Kien Giang Province) until 2040, with the goal of developing Phu Quoc into an island urban area, a high-quality tourism and resort service center with its own identity and appeal. At the same time, Phu Quoc is also oriented to become a regional and international trade, service center, and high-tech healthcare and nursing center.

By August 2024, the Prime Minister approved the Urban and Rural System Planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050. In which, Phu Quoc City was included in the list of localities expected to become a Type I City of the Mekong Delta.

To realize this vision, Phu Quoc City has mobilized many resources to build and develop transport, urban, civil and environmental infrastructure projects. Among them, many important projects have been and are being implemented, such as Phu Quoc International Passenger Port, upgrading Phu Quoc International Airport, etc.

Phu Quoc City will continue to make breakthroughs on the journey to become a Class I City and a high-quality tourism and resort service center.

At the end of September, the People's Council of Kien Giang province approved the policy of changing the purpose of forest use to other purposes to implement a number of transport infrastructure projects, such as expanding Duong Dong - Cua Can - Ganh Dau road (DT45) and building a branch connecting to the South - North axis of Phu Quoc city. In addition, the province also approved the medium-term public investment plan for the period 2026 - 2030 with a capital of VND 139,300 billion, allocated to 847 other works and projects.

Strong investment resources are the levers that help the pearl island soon complete the criteria to become a Type I urban area and affirm the role of a unique, rich-identity coastal-island urban area.
