The 2024 high school graduation exam has more than 1 million candidates taking the literature subject. According to the announcement of the Ministry of Education and Training, the average score for literature nationwide is 7.23, much higher than last year's average (6.86). After civic education, literature is the subject with the second highest average score.
According to Thanh Nien Newspaper's analysis, there is no province or city in the country with an average score in literature below average. The lowest is Cao Bang, approximately 6 points. There are only 8 provinces in the country with an average score in literature below 6.5. The level from 6.5 to 7.5 is achieved by 38 provinces and cities.
Among the remaining 25 provinces and cities (average score in literature from 7.5 or higher), there are 7 provinces and cities with an average score in literature at the excellent level, from 8 points or higher, including: Ninh Binh 8.17; Tra Vinh 8.09; Nam Dinh 8.05; Ha Nam 8.05; Nghe An 8.04; Thanh Hoa 8; Hai Phong 8.
Nationwide, 92,054 candidates achieved a score of 9 or higher in literature (accounting for 9% of the total number of candidates taking the literature exam). Candidates with a score of 9 or higher in literature from these 7 provinces and cities alone accounted for 1/4 of the 9 points in literature nationwide.

If we consider the percentage of candidates who scored 9 or higher in literature compared to the number of candidates taking the exam, Ninh Binh is at the top of the list. This province has 3,158 candidates who scored 9 or higher in literature, accounting for 27% of the total number of candidates taking the literature exam in the province. 71% of candidates scored 8 or higher (meaning that out of 10 candidates taking the exam, only 3 scored below 8).
Ranked second is Tra Vinh, 26% (681 students, because the total number of candidates taking the exam in this province is small). Next are Ha Nam and Hai Phong, both 23%.
Although Thanh Hoa and Nghe An only have 19-20% of candidates scoring 9 points or higher in literature, because these two provinces have a large number of candidates, each province accounts for 7.6 to 8% of candidates scoring 9 points or higher nationwide (literature).
Among the remaining provinces and cities, Hanoi is only in 13th place, with an average score of "only" 7.76 in literature, but it is the locality with the most high scores. From 9 and above, Hanoi has 17,480 candidates, accounting for 19% of the country's literature scores from 9 and above. The reason for many high scores but the average score is not outstanding is because Hanoi's literature exam is too crowded, 106,636 students (accounting for 10% of the total number of candidates taking the literature exam).
Among the centrally-run cities, Ho Chi Minh City is the locality with the lowest literature score, with an average of 6.6. The entire city has 463 candidates achieving 9 points or higher in literature, while there were 85,679 candidates taking the exam.
