Phu Quoc – the 2nd most beautiful island on the planet
In a meeting with businessmen last weekend (July 13) on Phu Quoc Island, opening the conversation, Mr. Le Quoc Anh - Secretary of Phu Quoc City Party Committee announced the very good news, that our Pearl Island has just been voted 2nd in the world by the travel magazine Travel & Leisure (USA).
Accordingly, Travel & Leisure published the list. 25 most beautiful islands and archipelagos in the world 2024, and Phu Quoc ranked second with a total score of 94.41/100. The first place is Maldives with 95.63 points. More than 700,000 readers, international tourists and experts participated in the vote.
The above vote is part of the annual World's Best Award to find outstanding services in the tourism sector and is a guide for tourists to find places with good services. The voting criteria are based on 6 factors: natural attractions or beaches, activities and attractions, restaurants and cuisine, friendly people, and the value that the destination brings to visitors.
The leading American magazine wrote: Phu Quoc Island, located off the west coast of Vietnam, has the biggest strength as an emerging tourist destination in the world. While some Southeast Asian beaches are developing, Phu Quoc still maintains its tranquility. But that doesn't mean you can't find luxury hotels here. One of them is Regent Phu Quoc, which has a rooftop infinity pool, or New World Phu Quoc, which is in the top 4 best resorts in Southeast Asia and the top 100 in the world in 2024, also voted by Travel & Leisure.
7 months, nearly 4 million tourists come to Phu Quoc
Despite the prolonged rainy season, tourism activities in Kien Giang province in July 2024 still developed quite well, the number of visitors and tourism revenue increased compared to the same period; tasks and targets basically achieved the set plan.
According to the report of Kien Giang Department of Tourism, in July the whole province is estimated to welcome 1.2 million visitors (up 28.3% over the same period), of which international visitors are estimated to welcome 64,242 (up 26.7%); total revenue reaches 2,200 billion VND (up 27.5%). In the first 7 months, Kien Giang is estimated to welcome 6,672,384 visitors (reaching 72.5% of the yearly plan), of which international visitors are estimated to welcome 572,887 (reaching 84.2% of the yearly plan); total revenue reaches 15,594 billion VND (reaching 78% of the yearly plan).
Phu Quoc City alone, in July, is estimated to welcome 636,196 visitors (up 3.3% over the same period), of which international visitors are estimated to welcome 63,116 (up 27.4% over the same period); total revenue reaches 1,640 billion VND (up 14.1% over the same period). Accumulated in 7 months, estimated 3,966,165 visitors (reaching 59.2% of the yearly plan), international visitors are estimated to welcome 562,288 visitors (reaching 84.4% of the yearly plan), total revenue reaches 12,844 billion VND (reaching 75.6% of the yearly plan).
Mr. Bui Quoc Thai - Director of Kien Giang Department of Tourism said: From the beginning of the year, the province has promoted stimulus measures to achieve the target of welcoming 9.2 million tourists with revenue of 20,000 billion VND. And with the results achieved today, we are confident that we will reach and exceed the set target.
In addition, the Department of Tourism continues to carry out the processes and procedures for establishing the "Project to build Phu Quoc into a high-quality service center, eco-tourism, sea and island tourism of national and international stature"; Submit to the Provincial People's Committee for approval the Implementation Plan of the Project "Restructuring the tourism industry of Kien Giang province to meet the requirements of developing into a spearhead economic sector".
Propose and register events/activities to promote and advertise tourism in 2025. Work with Vietnam Airlines Corporation to discuss cooperation contents to encourage tourists to use night flight products. Mobilize, guide and confirm for travel service businesses in the province to participate in programs: Voting for attractive tourist destinations in Ho Chi Minh City and 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta; Ceremony to honor leading tourism businesses in Vietnam in 2024; Southern Traditional Cake Festival - An Giang in 2024 combined with a fair to promote tourism, trade - OCOP products...
Report on the implementation results of the Cooperation and Linkage Program for Tourism Development in the Western Cluster of the Mekong Delta in the first 6 months of 2024 and the cooperation results between Kien Giang province and Preah Sihanouk province, Kep province, Kingdom of Cambodia.
According to Mr. Bui Quoc Thai, in recent years, Kien Giang tourism industry has promoted linkages and cooperation in tourism development with provinces and cities at home and abroad, linking information work, digital transformation in the tourism sector and international integration... The province focuses resources on investing in building infrastructure and facilities, especially building key infrastructure works to tourist areas and destinations.
The Department of Tourism, together with investors and tourism businesses, focuses on developing a system of high-quality accommodation facilities, eco-resorts and entertainment areas, striving to reach 970 facilities by 2024, with more than 34,000 rooms, improving the quality of services for tourists.
