TP - The adjustments in the draft Admission Regulations for 2025 will impact the university's admission plans and methods, directly affecting candidates.

Confusion over new regulations

Expected new points affecting candidates this year include: no early admission, methods/universities are converted to a common scale, priority bonus points account for 10% of the total admission score.

Candidate Nguyen Thi Huyen (Hanoi) shared that last year, before taking the graduation exam, candidates knew they had been admitted (with conditions) to a number of universities. After taking the high school graduation exam, knowing their scores, they could continue to register for admission. This year, early admission is not possible, candidates can only be admitted (if qualified) to a single choice in a major at a certain university. Huyen felt pressured and worried because her chances of being admitted were reduced compared to last year.

Regarding this, Dr. Nguyen Manh Hung, senior expert of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training), affirmed that the admission opportunities for candidates will not be narrowed. Schools can have many admission methods, but the new point this year is that schools will not be able to announce the list of qualified candidates early as in previous years, but must wait until students have their high school graduation exam results to consider all methods at the same time, including the method of using high school graduation exam results. Training institutions will also have to convert the admission scores of many methods into a common admission score and consider from top to bottom until the quota is full.

The viewpoint of the Ministry of Education and Training when developing the University Admissions Regulations in 2025 is that the adjustments and innovations in the regulations on university admissions aim to ensure fairness and access to admission methods for all candidates.

These new points are to ensure fairness for candidates applying for admission through different methods, not to reduce the candidates' opportunities. Separate entrance exams (assessing capacity, talent, etc.) will still take place normally. The results of these exams will be uploaded to the general admission support system of the Ministry of Education and Training for consideration at the same time. Schools still have many admission methods such as considering academic records; considering capacity assessment test results; considering a combination of high school exam scores with talent test scores, international foreign language certificates, SAT, etc.

Mass adjustment of universities

Although the university admission plan for 2025 was announced (last January), because the university admission regulations have not been issued, the National Economics University continues to adjust some contents related to regular university admission. According to Dr. Le Anh Duc, Head of Training Management Department, National Economics University, at the end of March, the school announced the full admission plan. In particular, the new point compared to 2024 is that the quota is not divided according to the admission methods because the draft admission regulations require the methods to be converted to the same scale.

National Economics University considers a 30/30 scale. Therefore, the methods are on the same scale, so the benchmark is considered from top to bottom, so the school does not need to divide the quota according to independent methods like in 2024. This year, National Economics University maintains 3 stable admission methods: direct admission according to the Ministry's regulations, considering high school graduation exam results and combined admission. Candidates who are eligible for any admission method when registering, transfer all data to the admission system of the Ministry of Education and Training. A candidate can be eligible to register for all admission methods of the school. In 2024, the graduation exam results method accounts for 18% of the quota, the combined admission method accounts for 80% of the quota.

Another new point in the admissions this year of the National Economics University that candidates need to pay attention to is that the advanced, high-quality programs are considered based on admission scores from common admission methods. In previous years, to study these majors, candidates had to be admitted to any major, then take the exam organized by the school for re-admission. This year, the National Economics University is enrolling 5 advanced majors (divided into 2 admission codes: TT1 and TT2); 16 high-quality programs (divided into 3 admission codes: CLC1, CLC2, CLC3). Each major code will have a common admission score. For example, major code CLC3 includes 8 majors, candidates who register and meet the admission score of this major code will be able to choose to study 1 of these 8 majors.

Worry about AI taking over jobs

The explosion of artificial intelligence (AI) in all fields has made many candidates who want to study social sciences and humanities worried. Candidates worry that AI will replace humans in some fields such as translation, law, and journalism. Dr. Nguyen Thi Cuc Phuong, Vice Principal of Hanoi University, said that AI will be present in all areas of life, but we should not worry or panic, but find ways to use it and make AI serve humans.

“AI translates very well and very quickly, but it only does well with common content, while specialized content is not accurate,” said Ms. Cuc Phuong. She informed that, as an educational institution that trains many foreign languages, Hanoi University also had to adjust its training program. The school allows students to use AI to translate roughly, then instruct students to re-translate. Usually, students have to translate about 40% of such documents. Therefore, AI cannot replace humans, but should be used as a support tool. Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Phu Khanh, Vice President of Phenikaa University, affirmed that humans can use AI to support in all fields and professions. There are many things that AI cannot replace humans, for example, fields related to law, psychology, etc.
