TP - The adjustments in the draft regulations for university admissions in 2025 will impact the plans and methods of university admissions, directly affecting candidates.

Confused by the new regulations.

Expected new points affecting candidates this year include: no early admissions, all admission methods/universities being converted to a single scoring scale, and bonus points for priority and encouragement accounting for 10% of the total admission score.

Candidate Nguyen Thi Huyen ( Hanoi ) shared that last year, before the high school graduation exam, candidates already knew they had been conditionally accepted into some universities. After the high school graduation exam and knowing their scores, they could continue to register for admission. This year, there is no early admission process; candidates are only accepted (if they meet the requirements) into a single program at a particular university. Huyen feels pressured and worried because her chances of being accepted have decreased compared to last year.

Regarding this, Dr. Nguyen Manh Hung, senior specialist in the Department of Higher Education ( Ministry of Education and Training ), affirmed that the admission opportunities for candidates will not be narrowed. Universities may have multiple admission methods, but the new point this year is that universities will not be allowed to announce the list of eligible candidates early as in previous years. Instead, they must wait until students receive their high school graduation exam results before considering all methods simultaneously, including the method using high school graduation exam results. Educational institutions will also have to convert the admission scores from multiple methods to a single common score and consider candidates from highest to lowest until all quotas are filled.

The Ministry of Education and Training's perspective in developing the 2025 university admissions regulations is that the adjustments and innovations in the regulations on university admissions aim to ensure fairness and equal access to admissions methods for all candidates.

These new points aim to ensure fairness for candidates applying through different methods, not to reduce any opportunities for candidates. Separate entrance exams (aptitude tests, aptitude tests, etc.) will still take place as usual. The results of these exams will be uploaded to the Ministry of Education and Training's common admissions support system for consideration in the same round. Universities will still have multiple admission methods such as reviewing academic transcripts; reviewing aptitude test results; combining high school exam scores with aptitude test scores, international language certificates, SAT scores, etc.

The university is making a series of adjustments.

Although the university announced its 2025 admissions plan last January, the National Economics University (NEU) is making further adjustments to some aspects of its regular undergraduate admissions process because the regulations for university admissions have not yet been issued. According to Dr. Le Anh Duc, Head of the Training Management Department at NEU, the full admissions plan will be announced at the end of March. A new feature compared to 2024 is the elimination of quotas based on different admission methods, as the draft regulations require all methods to be converted to a single scoring scale.

The National Economics University uses a 30/30 scoring system. Therefore, since all admission methods use the same scoring scale, the cutoff scores are determined in descending order. Consequently, the university does not need to divide quotas according to independent methods as in 2024. This year, the National Economics University maintains three admission methods: direct admission according to the Ministry's regulations, admission based on high school graduation exam results, and combined admission. Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria for a particular method must submit all their data to the Ministry of Education and Training's admissions system. A candidate can be eligible to register for all of the university's admission methods. In 2024, the high school graduation exam results method accounted for 18% of the quota, while the combined admission method accounted for 80%.

Another new point in this year's admissions process at the National Economics University that candidates should note is that the advanced and high-quality programs will use the same admission criteria as the general admission methods. In previous years, to study these programs, candidates needed to be admitted to any program and then participate in the university's organized entrance exam for further consideration. This year, the National Economics University is admitting students to 5 advanced programs (divided into 2 admission codes: TT1 and TT2); and 16 high-quality programs (divided into 3 admission codes: CLC1, CLC2, CLC3). Each program code will share a common admission cutoff score. For example, program code CLC3 includes 8 programs; candidates who register and meet the cutoff score for this program code will be able to choose to study one of these 8 programs.

AI takes over jobs.

The explosion of artificial intelligence (AI) in all fields has caused many prospective students in the social sciences and humanities to worry. Students fear that AI will replace humans in certain areas such as translation, law, and journalism. Dr. Nguyen Thi Cuc Phuong, Vice Rector of Hanoi University, believes that AI will be present in all aspects of life, but there is no need to worry or panic; instead, we should find ways to utilize it and make it serve humanity.

“AI translation is very good and very fast, but it only works well with general content; it doesn't translate specialized content accurately,” said Ms. Cuc Phuong. She explained that Hanoi University, a leading institution in foreign languages, had to adjust its curriculum. The university allows students to use AI for rough translation, then guides them in the final translation. Typically, students have to translate about 40% of such texts themselves. Therefore, AI cannot replace humans; it should only be used as a supporting tool. Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Phu Khanh, Vice Rector of Phenikaa University, affirmed that humans can use AI to assist in all fields and professions. However, there are many things AI cannot replace humans in, for example, fields related to law and psychology…
