RECRUITMENT EXAM FOR SECONDARY SCHOOL GRADUATES IN THANH A N ISLAND COMMUNE
In the 2024-2025 school year, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will simultaneously implement the 10th grade admission and entrance exam methods depending on the locality. Accordingly, the Department will organize the 10th grade admission for students graduating from junior high school in Thanh An island commune, Can Gio district. These students can register for admission to Thanh An Junior High School - High School located in Thanh An commune. If they want to study high school at other high schools outside the island commune, they will have to take the entrance exam like students from other localities.
Grade 9 students in Ho Chi Minh City will take the grade 10 entrance exam on June 6-7.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Xuan, Vice Chairman of Can Gio District People's Committee, said that after the 10th grade entrance exam in recent years, there were a few students who failed to pass the 10th grade entrance exam at Thanh An Secondary and High School. The exam results of these students were not much different from the standard score, about 2 points. Meanwhile, if they study other learning models after completing secondary school such as GDTX or intermediate schools, colleges, the conditions for moving to the mainland are also limited and difficult. Therefore, the district has proposed to the Department to implement the admission method for secondary school graduates in Thanh An island commune to create conditions for them to continue their studies.
In addition, students who have completed secondary school in the remaining localities in Ho Chi Minh City will participate in the 10th grade entrance exam held on June 6-7 with 3 subjects: literature, math, foreign language if they register for regular 10th grade and a specialized exam according to the registered subject if they register for a specialized class or an integrated subject exam if they want to apply for 10th grade integrated English program at high school level.
ADDING STUDENTS WHO ARE ABLE TO ADMISSION DIRECTLY
In addition, for the 10th grade entrance exam in 2024, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training also added direct admission for students who won national and international sports awards organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism or were sent to compete by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. This adjustment aims to achieve the goal of developing the sports movement and creating a source of athletes for the city's sports schools.
Thus, the subjects eligible for direct admission to grade 10 include: Students graduating from junior high school in the 2023-2024 school year in Ho Chi Minh City and are students with disabilities (with certificates according to regulations); Students who have won national and international prizes in culture, arts, sports, and national science and technology competitions for junior high school and high school students (national prizes organized or co-organized by the Ministry of Education and Training, or organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; international prizes sent by the Ministry of Education and Training or the Department of Education and Training or sent by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism).
Students will apply for direct admission with 3 wishes (NV) to public high schools near their place of residence in the city (except for specialized high schools, high schools with specialized classes, schools implementing the high-quality program "Advanced school, international integration").
As for students who win prizes in national science and technology competitions (for middle and high school students organized by the Ministry of Education and Training) or students who win international prizes (in subjects corresponding to the national general education program), they are allowed to register for direct admission to all public high schools in Ho Chi Minh City (except specialized high schools).

INCREASE WISHES FOR SPECIALIZED CLASSES, INTEGRATED ENGLISH CLASSES
Also according to the regulations on grade 10 admission this year, candidates have the right to register for a maximum of 6 NV (1 NV less than the grade 10 admission in previous years), including 3 NV for regular grade 10 and 3 NV for specialized classes or 3 NV for grade 10 integrated English program.
It is known that in previous years, each candidate had a maximum of 7 NVs to register for grade 10, including 3 NVs to enter regular grade 10, 2 NVs to enter specialized grade 10 (or 2 NVs to enter integrated English grade 10) and 2 NVs to enter non-specialized grade 10 in specialized high schools. However, this year, implementing the regulations on specialized high schools issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, the two specialized schools Le Hong Phong and Tran Dai Nghia will not enroll non-specialized grade 10.
Therefore, Mr. Le Hoai Nam, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that the Department has calculated that each candidate will have a maximum of 6 NVs to enter grade 10. Of which, there will be 3 NVs to enter regular grade 10 as before, while the NVs for specialized or integrated grade 10 will increase from 2 to 3, adding NVs to create as many opportunities as possible for candidates.
RECRUITMENT BEFORE NEW SCHOOL YEAR
In addition, depending on the actual situation of students applying for admission to high schools, the Department of Education and Training will decide to recruit additional students for those who fail all 3 regular NV and will issue written instructions to ensure the rights of candidates with high test scores and on the basis of recruiting enough students for schools that are still lacking many students. To carry out additional recruitment in phase 2, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City will calculate to shorten the time to announce the results of the 10th grade entrance exam this year compared to previous years.
Mr. Le Hoai Nam added that the additional recruitment may not only stop at regular grade 10 but can be implemented for both specialized and integrated English classes. In particular, depending on the situation of application submission to specialized and integrated classes, the Department will decide on additional recruitment and issue written instructions for implementation immediately after candidates complete their application submission or organize additional recruitment exams after the end of semester 1 of the 2024-2025 school year.
According to the leader of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, the additional recruitment creates opportunities for students in the city who are in difficult circumstances or due to errors in the NV registration process... to continue their opportunities to study at public high schools. At the same time, it is to gradually achieve the goal of recruiting enough students compared to the assigned quota at the units.
Change the way to review literature
According to the announcement of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, the structure of the 10th grade entrance exam in 2024, the final year of implementing the 2006 general education program at the secondary level, will remain stable as in previous years. Only the literature exam will adjust the use of materials in the literary argument section. Specifically, this year's exam will require students to analyze and perceive a specific work or excerpt from a work in the textbook (SGK) instead of last year's requirement that candidates choose a work (or excerpt) according to the requirements of the exam.
With this adjustment, teacher Nguyen Thi Mai Huong, Huynh Khuong Ninh Secondary School (District 1), said that students need to review and master each key text in textbooks, volumes 1 and 2 (review the text in the direction of understanding in detail, thoroughly grasping the structure, theme, main points of the text, practicing a lot on analytical skills, proving according to the thesis...). Then practice more extensive connection/association operations with an excerpt, another work or real life or the impact of the work on themselves to be appropriate, profound, and practical.
Teacher Nguyen Duc Uy, Tran Van On Secondary School (District 1), noted that when using textbooks, students need to avoid guessing questions, "familiar" questions, which can lead to rote learning, "familiar" learning, and learning sample texts.
Students need to plan how to review the knowledge of the entire 9th grade year effectively, not just study whatever they like. If there are any parts that they do not fully understand, they need to discuss them with teachers and friends to better understand the problem. Practice according to the teacher's instructions, and read more reference materials when they have free time.
Reviewing the lesson content systematically, by topic, with reasonable comparisons and connections will help students remember the lesson better. Literary works must be arranged in stages, with appropriate evidence for topics such as nature, life, and human qualities. Always pay attention to the artistic part of poems and prose so that when writing a literary essay, it does not fall into the style of prose or just retelling the story.
