At the age of 66, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Ninh (born in 1957, residing in Dong Minh village, Huong Minh commune) is always actively developing the economy and having a prosperous family life. He is an example for the villagers to learn from, enthusiastically compete in production, and rise up in life.
It is known that since 1984, after returning to his hometown after being discharged from the army, Mr. Ninh focused on doing business but struggled for a long time without success. In 2010, he decided to grow oranges and raise livestock to increase his income. Despite his age, Mr. Ninh still diligently learned from the experiences of previous households and regularly researched documents on crops and livestock. Thanks to that, after a period of perseverance and diligence, his 2 hectares of oranges grew well and gave high yields.

Mr. Ninh shared: “For me, as long as I am healthy, I will continue to work and set an example for my children and grandchildren. With that in mind, I always try my best to develop the economy. Up to now, my orange garden has brought high economic efficiency. On average, each year, I sell about 13-15 tons of oranges, earning about 300 million VND.”
In addition to growing oranges, Mr. Ninh also planted nearly 20 hectares of raw acacia forest and regenerated it, earning an income of 200 - 250 million VND/harvest cycle and nearly 30 million VND/year from pig farming.
In recent times, the movement of setting good examples, competing to develop the economy, eliminate hunger and reduce poverty, and legitimately enrich the elderly in Vu Quang has spread and gone deep. Many people have overcome difficulties to become rich in their homeland.
Mr. Bang is still working hard to build his hometown.
37 years of beekeeping experience has helped Mr. Doan Lien Bang (born in 1949, Hop Duc village, Huong Minh commune) escape poverty and become a well-off household in the locality. Currently, his family is raising 60 bee colonies, producing an average of more than 800 liters of honey each year, earning about 150 million VND.
Mr. Bang shared: “At this age, my children and grandchildren advise me to rest, but I still want to work to stay healthy and happy. I also want to spread the positive working spirit so that my children and grandchildren can work together and contribute to the development of the family and local economy.”
Not only setting an example in economic development, many elderly people in Vu Quang district also actively take on roles in organizations, contributing to building a new cultural life.
Taking on the role of head of village 7, Quang Tho commune since 2015, Mr. Tran Hoai Son (born in 1955) and the people have turned the Catholic village with many difficulties into a model residential area.
Once a poor village, hidden at the foot of the mountain, the people's lives were still lacking, but with the effort and determination to change their lives, build a model residential area, Mr. Son took the lead as an exemplary person, spreading the spirit of building a new countryside.
With his enthusiasm, Mr. Son (right) continues to strive to contribute to the locality.
Mr. Son said: “Seeing my hometown change day by day, I am very happy. That is also the motivation for me to try to promote the spirit of “old age, bright example” of the elderly. With the trust of the people, while I am still healthy, I will still try to contribute to the community.”
Mr. Ninh, Mr. Bang, and Mr. Son are three of the many outstanding elders in Vu Quang. Each has a different way of doing things, but with their responsibilities, they all try to complete their tasks well, becoming a source of trust and a solid support for their children, grandchildren, and people.

It is known that the Elderly Association of Vu Quang district currently has over 4,300 members, operating in 79 branches. In the economic field, the whole association has 136 economic models owned by the elderly with an income of over 50 million VND. They are "tall trees", despite their old age, they are still actively developing the economy and participating in social activities.
