Mr. Nguyen Van Sum (born in 1949)
Mr. Nguyen Van Sum, commonly known as Nguyen Quang Tri, is originally from An Duc commune, Ba Tri district. Mr. Nguyen Quang Tri has worked for many years in the cultural and information sector. During the resistance war, he was a legal union member working at the Ba Tri town base, then escaped and worked at the Ba Tri district Propaganda Department until the day of liberation.
After liberation, he worked and held the positions of member, Deputy Head of the Standing Committee, Head of the Propaganda Department and Principal of the Political School, Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee, Secretary of the District Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Ba Tri District, Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department, Director of the Department of Culture and Information. After retirement, he continued his cultural research activities and was a prestigious cultural researcher of the province, former Chairman of the Provincial Cultural Heritage Association, member of the Nguyen Dinh Chieu Literature and Arts Association since 1996, member of the Vietnam Folk Arts Association since 2005, member of the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Association since 2010.
During his work, he received 5 medals, including: First-class Victory Medal, Second-class Anti-American National Salvation Medal, Third-class Resistance Medal, Third-class Labor Medal, Second-class Labor Medal, 16 medals, commemorative medals, the title of National Emulation Fighter, 39 certificates of merit at all levels, 27 certificates of merit, 3 certificates of commendation, and certificates of winning writing and journalism competitions in the province.
He has typical works and projects such as: Ben Tre Culture - Perspectives (2023), Ben Tre Cultural Quintessence (co-author Lu Hoi, 2011), Truong Vinh Trong - Imprints of Time (co-author Lu Hoi), Nguyen Van Trung - Life and Career (co-author Lu Hoi, 2017).
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thach (born in 1950)
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thach is known by his pen name Nguyen Nhat Nam, originally from Phuoc Thanh commune, Chau Thanh district. He started his creative career in 1987 and has been a member of the Nguyen Dinh Chieu Literature and Arts Association since 1989.
Working at the Nguyen Dinh Chieu Literature and Arts Association since 2002, writer Nguyen Nhat Nam has always strived to fulfill his duties. Many of his works have been selected to be published in the Ben Tre Literature and Arts publication (later Ham Luong Literature and Arts Magazine).
Over the past decades, he has participated in discovering and gathering potential literary and artistic elements in the locality, mobilizing the establishment of clubs as a premise for establishing literary and artistic branches in the districts. Writer Nguyen Nhat Nam also participated in compiling and contributing to the work "Teaching and learning materials for local literature - Ben Tre Province Secondary School".
Regarding literary and artistic creation, writer Nguyen Nhat Nam always focuses on and actively participates in creative activities and wins prizes in writing competitions in and outside the province. Up to now, he has published 4 collections of short stories and memoirs; in which the short story collection “Ganh Dao Nguyen” (2006) left many impressions in the hearts of readers, winning an award from the National Committee of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations .
Mr. Nguyen An Cu (born in 1953)
Writer Nguyen An Cu also uses the pen name Nguyen An, originally from Chau Hoa commune, Giong Trom district. Writer Nguyen An Cu started out as a teacher. He worked for many years at Chau Hoa Primary School, Giong Trom town.
After more than 15 years as principal (1975 - 1993), he switched to working as a school librarian and focused on literary and artistic creation, writing for newspapers and has been involved in writing for more than 30 years. At the same time, he also held the role of chairman and vice chairman of the Phan Van Tri Poetry Club, a member of the Nguyen Dinh Chieu Literature and Arts Association. He regularly collaborated with Ham Luong Literature and Arts Magazine, Education and Times Newspaper, Dong Khoi Newspaper, Ho Chi Minh City Literature and Arts Newspaper, Nhan Dan Newspaper, and special issues of departments, branches and localities in the province.
In his career so far, writer Nguyen An Cu has published 8 collections of short stories and poems. The most prominent of these is the collection of short stories “Teacher and Student Stories”. This is the work that writer Nguyen An Cu devoted to the education sector that he has been attached to. Writer Nguyen An Cu has collaborated and had his works published in 45 books, which are collections of poems, memoirs, and short stories, from 1996 to the present.
He has won nearly 40 awards in writing competitions in the fields of prose, poetry, journalism, and music in and outside the province.
Mr. Nguyen Van Loi (born in 1955)
Mr. Nguyen Van Loi (Artisan Minh Loi), born in 1955, in a family of traditional music in Huu Dinh commune, Chau Thanh district. He is a talented artist, with 55 years of experience, knowledgeable in musical instruments such as: guitar, tranh, bau, sen, kim, co, violin and the original songs, the quintessence of the art of Southern amateur music.
Over the years, he has trained many generations of amateur musicians, amateur singers, professional cai luong stage artists, and many traditional instrumentalists. In particular, he has spent time researching and writing new lyrics for more than 20 traditional songs and more than 100 amateur songs with new lyrics.
His works are imbued with the breath of contemporary life with faith in life, praising the leader, the enthusiasm to protect the Fatherland as well as the process of developing the homeland. His works are loved and widely used in performing arts activities in and outside the province. In 2001, he compiled the book "Repertoire of Cai Luong and Southern Amateur Theatre" with more than 200 compositions. In 2015, Mr. Nguyen Van Loi was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist by the President.
Outstanding among the works of Meritorious Artist Minh Loi is the book “Ben Tre Ritual Music in the Flow of Southern Ritual Music” (compiled in 2019). This is a monograph book, making an important contribution to the transmission, preservation and protection of ceremonial music from the intrusion, mixing and loss of the traditional artistic values of traditional Southern ceremonial music in general and Ben Tre in particular.
