2025 will be the year when the first cohort of students under the new general education program take their graduation exams. It is projected that approximately 127,000 students across the city will take the junior high school graduation exam, of which 79,000 will be admitted to public high schools, while 48,000 will attend private high schools, vocational training centers, or continuing education programs.
This year, Hanoi is holding the entrance exam for 10th grade in public schools over two days, June 7-8, three days earlier than last year. The exam consists of three compulsory subjects: Mathematics, Literature, and a Foreign Language.
On the morning of June 7th, candidates took the Literature exam for 120 minutes, and in the afternoon, they took the third subject exam for 60 or 90 minutes. On the morning of June 8th, candidates only took the Mathematics exam, with a time limit of 120 minutes.
Candidates can register for 3 preferences for non-specialized public high schools, of which the first and second preferences must be within the prescribed admission area; the third preference can be within any admission area.
To apply to a specialized high school, students can register for two preferences: either two of the four specialized high schools in Hanoi, or two preferences for the same specialized high school.
