Why is sleeping in a car dangerous?
Many people come up with the idea of sleeping in a car with the air conditioning on, and you can absolutely sleep well in a car with the air conditioning on. However, many cases of falling asleep in a car have resulted in death.
Vietnamnet quoted ehiclefreak as saying that the main reason why sleeping for hours in a car with the air conditioner on is dangerous is because of CO (or carbon monoxide). Keeping the car's air conditioner running means keeping your car's engine running.
How dangerous is CO gas?
Dr. Nguyen Huy Hoang, Vietnam - Russia Hyperbaric Oxygen Center (Ministry of National Defense) said that red blood cells transport oxygen thanks to a substance called hemoglobin. Each hemoglobin molecule is like a truck to carry oxygen throughout the body.
Under normal conditions, oxygen is transported in arterial blood in two forms, combined with hemoglobin (96-97%) and dissolved in blood (3-4%).
When CO enters the respiratory tract, it immediately combines very quickly with hemoglobin and forms a very stable compound. It can be understood simply that this CO quickly jumps up to take up all the space on the trucks (hemoglobin) and stays there.
At this point, the hemoglobin molecules in the victim's blood become useless and can no longer transport oxygen. The victim's body runs out of oxygen, causing them to suffocate on land.
In addition, CO gas is colorless, odorless, and tasteless, so the victim falls into a coma very silently, without any warning signs.
Sleeping in a car is very dangerous.
Vital notes when sleeping in the car with the air conditioner on
When the power goes out in the middle of a hot day, or when you are tired after a long journey, many people have the idea of sleeping in the car with the air conditioning on. This is not impossible, but to be safe, you need to pay attention to the following:
According to Dan Tri Newspaper, you should choose a cool and shady place to park your car, to limit the exhaust fumes from the exhaust pipe from quickly dissipating and not lingering around the car.
In the summer, it is difficult to sleep in a car without the air conditioner on, so the solution to get oxygen is to open the window about 1.5-2.5cm.
Experts advise you to set the alarm for 15-30-45-60 minutes consecutively to avoid falling asleep in the car for too long, avoiding the situation where you are too tired or sleepy and unconsciously turn off the alarm and continue sleeping.
In particular, you should open the windows slightly or use the sunroof if your car has one. Note that the doors must always be locked to prevent intruders.
Hanging curtains serves two functions: preventing passersby from seeing what is happening inside the car and preventing light and insects from entering the car. If you do not have curtains ready, you can take cardboard and cut it into the shape of a window.
To keep the air circulating, have a small fan available.
Sleeping in the car is only a last resort. Drivers should proactively plan a suitable route, avoid traveling a lot at night if not necessary, and prepare their health to stay alert.
