New points of the 7th National Book Awards

(To Quoc) - To continue to improve the quality, bring the National Book Award to its status as a national award, and at the same time create a strong spread as well as bring the award closer to readers, the Ministry of Information and Communications has issued new Award Regulations and Rules with many new points.

Specifically, expanding the composition of the steering agency and the coordinating agency to organize the award with the direct participation of important agencies such as the Central Propaganda Department as the steering agency for the award; the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as the coordinating agency.

At the same time, expand the list of nominees for the award, including readers and press and media agencies; increase the percentage of points to promote the spread of the award-winning books; add a new category to the award structure, the Readers' Favorite Book Award, nominated and voted by readers themselves.

In addition, the organization announces the nominated books that have won the award after passing two preliminary and final rounds; Organizes activities to honor authors and translators,

The Vietnam Publishing Association said that the 7th National Book Awards continued to invite 81 experts, scientists, and managers who meet the standards and conditions to participate in judging the awards, most of whom are writers and leading scientific experts with prestige and experience in judging awards, suitable for the book industry at the Preliminary Subcommittees (for the Preliminary Subcommittee of the Readers' Favorite Book Award, the Jury includes representatives of the Department of Foreign Information, the Department of Publishing, Printing and Distribution, journalists and experts) and the Final Council.

In 2024, 51/57 publishers had books participating in the award (10 more publishers than the 6th National Book Award). The number of books participating in the 7th National Book Award was 372 titles and book series, including 455 books participating in this year's award, 60 more titles and book series, and 20 more books than the award last year.

The judging of the 7th National Book Awards was carried out scientifically and strictly. The members of the Preliminary Council, the Final Council, and the National Book Awards Council worked impartially, seriously, and objectively, judging the books participating in the 7th National Book Awards in accordance with the rules and regulations of the awards. The works proposed for consideration for awards all ensured the quality of content and form.

Based on the voting results at the National Book Award Council, the Department of Publishing, Printing and Distribution; Vietnam Publishing Association has compiled and submitted to the Minister of Information and Communications for consideration to award the 7th National Book Award in 2024 to 59 books and books including: 3 A prizes; 10 B prizes; 21 C prizes; 22 Encouragement prizes and 0 Readers' Favorite Book awards (1 book won 2 award categories).

With the support of businesses and sponsors, the 7th National Book Awards continues to maintain the same prize value with 100 million VND for the first prize, 50 million VND for the second prize, 30 million VND for the third prize, 10 million VND for the encouragement prize and 20 million VND for the book prize that readers love. The total prize value has increased to about 2 billion VND.

The 7th National Book Awards Ceremony is expected to be held in November 2024, consisting of 2 parts: the Gratitude Ceremony and the Official Award Ceremony. At the 7th National Book Awards Ceremony, the Ministry of Information and Communications will award certificates of merit to collectives and individuals who have made outstanding achievements, many innovations and creations in publishing valuable books, positively impacting social life; promoting books, and promoting the development of reading culture.

In addition, within the framework of the 7th National Book Awards Ceremony, the Vietnam Publishing Association coordinated with the Truth National Political Publishing House and the Information and Communications Publishing House to display and exhibit valuable books and book series, especially important political theory books published in recent times, along with all award-winning books from the first National Book Awards to the present.
