On February 12, the 46th Regular Session of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU) officially took place, amid a changing global context with shocks and uncertainties.

According to Xinhua news agency, the meeting, which brought together foreign ministers of AU member countries, was held from February 12-13, with the theme "Justice for Africans and people of African descent through rehabilitation".
Speaking at the opening session of the meeting at the headquarters in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, AU Commission Chairman Moussa Faki Mahamat warned that violent conflicts continue to undermine peace and security in Africa.
He stressed the importance of promoting good governance, promoting continental cooperation and socio-economic development as effective solutions to address Africa's peace and security challenges.
The head of the AU Commission also called for strengthening the multilateral international system in the context of global peace and security facing many challenges.
Meanwhile, Mauritania’s Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug said that learning from the current turmoil to find a common solution must be a constant concern. He said that the only alternative is to strengthen the AU as the main platform to promote Africa’s common projects and aspirations.
Highlighting the challenges Africa is currently facing, Ethiopian Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos said that Africa is facing a myriad of challenges, from climate change to pandemics, requiring the continent to step up its efforts.
According to him, the future of Africa depends on the continent's collective will and action.
