Like the stars at night

At 6 p.m. on a mid-November day, when it was getting dark, we, along with a delegation of leaders and officials from the Provincial Construction Investment Management Board, went to inspect and encourage contractors working on a number of projects invested by the board. The service road leading to the construction site of the Kinh Mon River Overpass Bridge and the access road connecting the interchange with Highway 5 were already lit. This was also the time when night shift workers started their new shifts.

The vast construction site was bustling with the sounds of excavators and drills... Groups of workers were working hard, here carrying steel, there carrying drills, in the distance a road-building team... Lights and welding torches flickered like stars at night on the construction site. On the road-building ground were the tracks of rollers and excavators racing against time.

The iron working area is the brightest, each worker has a task, carefully connecting and welding each joint to make the frame. Mr. Vuong Van Hung, a worker at Khang Nguyen Infrastructure Construction Investment Joint Stock Company, said: "We have been thoroughly informed about the project by the Project Management Board and the construction site commander, and we remind each other to work with a high sense of responsibility, enthusiastically ensuring safety during construction and striving to exceed the set plan."

The Kinh Mon River overpass and the approach road connecting the interchange with National Highway 5 in Thuong Quan Commune (Kinh Mon) and Kim Xuyen Commune (Kim Thanh) started construction in mid-October 2024 with a total investment of VND 600 billion from the provincial budget. The total length of the project is about 1.55 km, of which the road length is 957.8 m, the bridge section is 568.6 m, the box retaining wall is 23.6 m; the roadbed width is 12 m.

To date, the road section at the bridgehead has been dug for 700 m, and 60% of it has been filled with K90 sand. The contractor is focusing on constructing cement piles to reinforce the roadbed. The bridge section has completed 8/8 bored piles of M1 abutment, and is constructing bored piles of T1, T2 and T10 piers. According to the signed contract, the project will be completed in December 2025.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hue, Project Director, said that with the desire to speed up the progress, since the start of construction, the contractor has been focusing on machinery and equipment to urgently construct. At this time, there are always about 50 engineers and workers on the construction site, divided into many different construction teams. Workers work on holidays and overtime at night. In addition to being paid according to regulations, engineers and workers working at night and on holidays also have overtime allowances and separate bonuses.

Leaders of the Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board encouraged workers to work the night shift at the Cay Bridge construction site.

At night, the surface of the Sat River (Binh Giang) sparkles with lights. 50 workers and engineers are working on the Cay Bridge construction project, part of the Provincial Road 394 bypass, each doing their own work. Working on the bridge during the day is hard, working at night is even harder and more dangerous because of limited visibility while many items have to be done at high altitudes.

Stopping his iron bending, Mr. Ha Van To, in Quan Son district (Thanh Hoa) said: "Working at night with lights on, there is no fear of lack of light, and the temperature is also milder at night. Workers sometimes talk to each other to avoid sleepiness."

The Cay Bridge construction investment project belongs to the bypass of Highway 394 with a total investment of more than 200 billion VND, invested by the Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board. The project connects Cam Dong commune (Cam Giang) and Hung Thang commune (Binh Giang). The scale of the road is a level II plain, the design speed is 80 km/h. The total length of the bridge is 182 m with 4 spans built permanently with prestressed reinforced concrete, 30 m wide, divided into 2 separate bridge units.

Mr. Do Tien Dung, a construction engineer of the Cay Bridge project, said that in September, due to the impact of storm No. 3, heavy rain and high river water levels affected the construction of the project. Since the river water level receded, taking advantage of favorable weather, the joint venture of contractors mobilized maximum machinery, equipment, and human resources, dividing into many shifts to speed up the progress.

Up to now, the Cay bridge project has completed all 48/48 Super T girders, all 12 M1 abutment piles, completed drilling all 16 T1 piers and 16 T2 piers, and is constructing T3 pier and M2 abutment... It is estimated that the project has completed 58% of the volume, ensuring progress as required, striving to complete in April 2025.

Saying goodbye to the road and bridge workers, we went to the construction site of the Hai Duong Obstetrics Hospital Phase II Investment Project. This is a civil project with a total investment of nearly 240 billion VND.

In addition to demolishing old, degraded buildings, the hospital will build an inpatient treatment block, comprehensive services, and complete the technical infrastructure system. The building consists of 7 floors, 1 basement and 1 attic, with a construction area of over 2,200 m2, and a total floor area of over 16,300 m2. When completed, the project will contribute to completing the facilities and improving the quality of medical examination and treatment.

The construction site commander sets up daily and weekly schedules, closely following the items to speed up the overall progress of the project, and the project is expected to be completed on February 27, 2025.
