The "sunny" smile of a young soldier on Song Tu Tay Island, Truong Sa archipelago while pulling the Tet goods that have just been loaded from a canoe to shore.
At the end of December 2024, the HQ 571 ship of Naval Region 4 left Cam Ranh military port, Khanh Hoa province, heading straight to Truong Sa archipelago. The year-end voyage encountered many difficulties due to erratic rain and wind, and rough seas due to the influence of a tropical depression.
Therefore, the head of the working group of Brigade 146 and the leaders and commanders of Brigade 955 have made detailed and specific plans so that the important Tet shipment can reach its destination safely. After many days drifting at sea amidst the stormy waves, the spring gifts from the mainland have arrived at the outpost islands of the Fatherland.
Colonel Do Hai Dang - Deputy Political Commissar of Brigade 146 - said: "Despite the stormy conditions and complicated weather at the end of the year, the officers, soldiers of the working group and sailors on the ship have upheld their sense of responsibility, overcoming all difficulties to bring material from provinces and cities to send to the soldiers and people in Truong Sa archipelago to celebrate Tet."
Tet goods sent to people and authorities in Truong Sa archipelago are carefully packaged, especially fragile items such as dishes or important items such as medicine.
Young officers and soldiers of the Vietnam People's Navy were divided into groups to take on the task of preserving and transporting each intact kumquat and peach tree to the islands of Song Tu Tay, Sinh Ton, Sinh Ton Dong, Co Lin, Len Dao...
After a period of traveling at sea amidst the stormy sea, sometimes with waves 4-5m high and continuous heavy rain, ship HQ 571 began its first cargo shipment to Song Tu Tay Island. The island is oval-shaped, 4-6m above sea level, and from afar you can see the green color of the forest in the middle of the vast ocean. Song Tu Tay currently has many households living there, and a large port supports fueling and fresh water for fishing boats of fishermen fishing far from shore.
In this Tet shipment, a large freezer was transferred from the ship to the island. The freezer helps preserve food during rough seas, when there is no food supply from the mainland. To coordinate to ensure safety and success, the head of the working group asked the soldiers to tie it down carefully. However, due to strong winds, the freezer sometimes spun around in the wind, but thanks to the calmness of the officer in charge, the freezer was successfully transferred to a smaller ship to bring the goods to the island.
In addition to kumquat trees, peach trees, food, medicine and other necessities, ship HQ 571 also transported a pig weighing more than 100 kg (contained in a specialized bag) to the islands to serve the Lunar New Year celebration.
According to Major Le Van Lam - captain of ship HQ 571 (Flotilla 411, Brigade 955, Navy Region 4), the task of transporting Tet goods from the mainland to Truong Sa archipelago encountered big waves and strong winds, but the working group assigned clear tasks to 100% of officers and soldiers, from holding the boat rope to lifting the goods. "The process of lifting goods and holding the rope at sea requires experienced people to ensure the safety of people and goods, and to avoid collisions that affect the quality of necessities. New soldiers are all given specific and meticulous instructions by experienced officers, who accompany them in handling unexpected situations," said Major Lam.
The train loaded with goods brings the joy of Lunar New Year 2025 to the people, officers and soldiers in Truong Sa archipelago.
Along with Tet gifts such as jams, candies, oranges, grapefruits, peach blossoms, apricot blossoms, and kumquat trees that have just crossed the sea to the island, Mr. Cao Van Giap - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Song Tu Tay Commune (Truong Sa District, Khanh Hoa Province) - expressed that the meaningful Tet gifts, the attention and encouragement from the Party, the State and the people on the mainland will help the army and people at the forefront have more strength to overcome all difficulties and challenges.
