SEIZED MORE THAN 671 KG OF DRUGS TRANSPORTED BY AIR
According to the Department of Investigation Police on Drug Crimes (C04) of the Ministry of Public Security, the outstanding feature of drug crimes transported via air routes is that the subjects operate professionally, connect, and form tightly organized lines between domestic and foreign people to buy, sell, and transport drugs into Vietnam. In order to ensure social order and safety, the Department of Investigation Police on Drug Crimes (PC04) of Hanoi City Police proactively develops plans to prevent and combat this type of crime. In the air route alone, in the first 6 months of 2023, Hanoi City Police coordinated with functional units to detect 18 cases, arrest 33 subjects; and seized more than 671 kg of various types of drugs. With the achieved results, recently, PC04 of Hanoi City Police was awarded the title "Hero of the People's Armed Forces" by the President, and was also commended and honored by the Ministry of Public Security in the month of action against drugs.
Drugs are cleverly disguised by the subjects before being smuggled into Vietnam.
PC04 PROVIDED BY HANOI CITY POLICE
Typically, on March 1, PC04 of Hanoi City Police coordinated with PC04 of Ho Chi Minh City Police and related units to catch Nguyen Minh Trung (26 years old, residing in Binh Tri Dong B Ward, Binh Tan District, Ho Chi Minh City) red-handed while illegally transporting drugs, seizing 108 kg of various synthetic drugs hidden in bags of chocolate candy. Trung confessed that he was hired to transport these drugs for Bui Phu Quy (24 years old, residing in Binh Tan District). Also transporting drugs with Trung was Ha Phuoc Tri (18 years old, residing in Binh Tan District). During the investigation, the authorities also arrested Bui Minh Tam (40 years old, Quy's brother) for illegal possession of drugs.
According to the representative of PC04 of Hanoi City Police, this is a case of illegal transportation of drugs from Poland to Hanoi with a large quantity and new tricks. The ringleader in Poland transported drugs to Vietnam in the form of checked baggage of passengers who did not carry or carried little baggage, the drugs were disguised in chocolate packages so that the person hired to transport them would not know.
Recently, on March 23, PC04 of Hanoi City Police in coordination with the Hanoi City Customs Department discovered a package suspected of containing drugs being transported from the Netherlands to Vietnam via Noi Bai Airport. Using professional measures, on May 4, PC04 of Hanoi City Police discovered the case, arrested 4 suspects and seized more than 62 kg of various synthetic drugs. This was a case of transporting drugs from the Netherlands to Vietnam via international postal services. The drugs were cleverly disguised by the subjects in beer cans, food items, household items, etc.
Drugs disguised as gifts… across continents
Regarding drug transportation by air, the Department of Investigation Police on Drug Crimes (C04) of the Ministry of Public Security, recognized that suspects in transcontinental drug transportation often change their operating rules, led by international drug crime organizations such as Taiwanese (China), African subjects colluding with people in the drug centers of the Golden Triangle, Golden Crescent, and South America to form a drug trafficking and transportation network to Vietnam and Southeast Asian countries by air. The leading suspect does not directly transport drugs but manages, divides the stages, takes advantage of difficult circumstances or the difficult circumstances of women to transport prohibited goods. Recently, the situation of illegal drug trading and transportation by air has changed its methods. Suspects do not prefer to hide drugs in luggage or checked goods, but instead send them by express mail in gift boxes. Criminals' methods of hiding drugs are wrapping them in foil, hiding them in suitcases, shoes, food boxes, cosmetics, tea, coffee, hiding them in audio and electronic equipment, even mixing them into liquid and then soaking them into the lining of suitcases, towels or creating thick substances to avoid inspection and detection by authorities.
THE "BOSS" WHO TRANSPORTED 100 BAKES OF HEROIN SURRENDERED
Even with drugs transported by road, quite a long time ago, PC04 of Hanoi Police also achieved many resounding victories. Colonel Tran Quyet Thang, Head of PC04 of Hanoi Police, recalled that nearly ten years had passed but he had not forgotten the story of persuading the drug "boss" to surrender. On November 5, 2014, PC04 of Hanoi Police deployed a plan to destroy the illegal drug trafficking ring from Son La to Hanoi, then transporting it to Lang Son and then sending it to China for consumption. According to the assigned plan, the unit's detectives divided into many groups, conducting interceptions and arrests at key locations that had been calculated in advance. The working group then intercepted and arrested a woman and seized 12 heroin cakes and 50 drug tablets. The male driver left his motorbike behind, taking advantage of the terrain to escape from the scene.
At this time, PC04 of Hanoi City Police focused on hot pursuit of the male subject who had fled to Lang Son. At the same time, based on the actual situation, the arrest team had the initiative to persuade the family to bring the subject to the police station to surrender. This was not an easy task, especially for a subject who was buying and selling drugs in large quantities. However, after days and nights of wandering around the area, using the lenient policy of the law to persuade him, the subject finally surrendered. From there, PC04 exploited and expanded the investigation of the line and arrested 4 more people involved, clarifying the subjects who had successfully bought, sold, and transported up to 100 heroin cakes to China for consumption.
Over 13,000 cases busted in 6 months
According to statistics from C04 of the Ministry of Public Security, in the first 6 months of 2023, the national drug crime investigation police force coordinated with relevant functional forces to fight and destroy more than 13,000 cases, arrest more than 20,000 subjects, seize more than 312 kg of heroin; more than 1.6 tons and nearly 828,000 synthetic drug pills; 174 kg of marijuana; more than 400 kg of cocaine; prosecuted 11,045 cases, 16,117 defendants; arrested, persuaded to surrender and eliminated a total of 186 wanted subjects for drugs.
To solve the case, according to Major Ngo Quoc Khanh, an officer of PC04 of Hanoi City Police, each case solved, each "white death" prevented also brings losses and sacrifices for the anti-drug crime force. "Every time they go on duty, the soldiers not only carry their own worries but also leave their family members worried when facing the risk of HIV exposure, the risk of being attacked by criminals, and danger to their lives and health. Therefore, police officers and soldiers investigating drug crimes must always maintain a spirit of steel to overcome all difficulties and obstacles and excellently complete the assigned tasks. Every officer and soldier on this front deserves to be a hero," Major Khanh shared.
Talking about the remarkable achievements of PC04 Hanoi Police, Colonel Tran Quyet Thang said that in recent years, in addition to destroying and preventing drug trafficking and transportation routes, PC04 Hanoi Police has also eliminated many complicated drug hotspots in the area such as Trung Liet landfill, Kham Thien market alley, block 87 Lang Ha, Ba Dinh district, Hanoi city; Hospital 09 Tan Trieu, Thanh Tri district... With the above achievements, PC04 Hanoi Police has just been awarded the title "Hero of the People's Armed Forces" by the President. This is a source of pride not only for the PC04 collective but also for all officers and soldiers of the unit. Equally important is the return of peace to the people and the recognition and appreciation of local Party committees, authorities, as well as the people... ( continued )
